Will the current government shutdown affect the banks coin supply at all? Are some banks not going to be able to get extra coins from distributors if they cannot get them from the mint?

That wasn't ruled constitutional; it was constitutional, literally, added as an amendment in the constitution.

I realize that. I was just trying to make the point that a handful of people in robes saying it's constitutional doesn't mean it's a good idea.

Whether it affects the coin supply or not, as the old saying goes.....

Shut happens.

Yep- and it has before. 1981 when Reagan replaced Carter. Was a utopia until Clinton decided everyone should own their own home even if they had neither money or a decent job. But you probably only read about those guys, it was so long ago...

Here is why obamacare is crap- I have insurance for a family of 4- that is just over $800 a month. I'm not rich but comfortable- just to see what the my rate would be if I retired from my current job and started my own construction business (already have it-just not full time). AND I had to use obama's AFFORDABLE health care system. My Premiums would be, at a minimum, $1,162 a MONTH! That's $13,944 a YEAR - MINIMUM!!! Please- please tell me how you can justify taking 8% of my GROSS income for just health coverage. NOT NET, Not including home, car, life, and builders risk insurance- that I already protect my family with. I don't live above my means, well below it. But I'm dang sure not in a position to pay for someone elses cough medicine when they CHOOSE to live a worthless existence, choose not to get an education, then cry about not getting a decent job, then blame me for thier problems, give up and expect me to take care of them. Screw that- I tried hard to make decent grades, I worked every day available and tried to do it as best I could in order to move up, learn, and improve my family's life.
But you kids are welcome to support the party of handouts and freebies. Just know that it can't last forever.

Yep. If only we replaced one person with another, overnight, the heavens would part and wealth and prosperity would rain down on our country! All because they believe different things! If the last two hundred years have shown us anything, it's that our two party system is working and that one is grossly superior (and different) to the other. Because two choices!

"Clinton" didn't come up with this notion on his own. Banking institutions actually lobbied for increased home ownership (more loans= more money charged at an even higher interest rate, plus the housing market was worth ALOT more at the time so even if people did default they [BANKS] could foreclose the home and still make a profit on its sale). The financial crisis was caused by this mortgage crisis, but you got to remember, the banks brought this on to themselves by lobbying for this crap in the first place.

I can give you any number of reasons why the trash care is unconstitutional. The problem is the supreme court has become corrupt and is controlled by people not qualified to be in that type of position.

1more4me, funny you blame obamacare for the healthcare problem. Did you try getting your own policy before it? If you had tried to get a small business policy or an individual plan before it would have been just as bad if nit worse. Hopefully with healthcare mandates the pool will expand and reduce premiums. This system has been broken for a long time and eas only getting worse. I welcome this change.

The system wasn't broken, just the laws controlling it. Insurance companies have created almost monopolies due to interstate commerce laws. The Republicans have wanted for years to drop the boundaries, which would have created competition and lowered premiums nationwide. This law was passed for one reason and one reason only, control.

Competition? They are all in cahoots. Huge increases yearly across the board regardless.

Yepper, that's what you're going to see now. Nobama said you can keep the policy you have. Wrong! Insurance companies are being told they have to cover more. They will charge more for the coverage. Companies that pay some or all for the employees will go with lower coverage plans to save the cost or they will cut everyone's hours so they are part time, no coverage need. This is already happening across the country. I know because it happened to my wife last week.

We need to target the slew of malpractice suits and the prices doctors and hospitals charge for service. The reason it costs so much, like college tuition, is that we don't pay for it up front. We have insurance or loans, and don't see the cost initially and accept that it's expensive. Health care and education can charge a lot because, hey, it's not your money (at least right now!). Two aspirin in some hospitals can cost $20. I can buy enough aspirin for years for $20 if it didn't expire! Same with the college I went to. Tuition plus room & board is over 50k starting last year. No way we could have paid that, and I went there in 04! It went up by about $20,000 in 8 years. Ridiculous!

I agree about the medical costs. Colleges raise their tuition costs because govco will give a loan to anybody. Yet the gov does nothing to attempt to lower those. Probably has something to do with all of the liberal instructors at said institutes of higher learning.

I see what joe's sayin but so long as smokers, obese, old people, people who don't work and people who are bound to die are included into this "insurance pool" it makes no sense. Single-payer (a step beyond obamacare) healthcare could save money if you regulated the pool to begin with. It'd make sense if the following was applied: First of you need to work to receive healthcare. If you don't work you are automatically disqualified (unless you are under 18). If you are too unhealthy to work I don't see why society should invest in you. Also, people like smokers, and obese people should be excluded from healthcare as well as the odds of getting say heart disease or lung cancer increase alot. I do not support single-payer healthcare but the previous was just to illustrate this is the only way to make it save money.

Althought the above is harsh, its true. People don't like harsh thing consequently obamacare doesn't address the harsh things. Since people are a bunch of babies, the above will never happen! So, what makes sense is to let the market regulate itself by charging higher-rates for people who are unhealthy and LEAVE them uninsured. dawgs, speaking about obamacare, we should get rid of medicaid too. AND make it more difficult to sue doctors.

It makes sense for joe to be for it, as it does make the process easier for him to select and insure himself (or potential employees) alot easier.

Man did I pick a bad first thread to read after being gone for a week!

Yes I did Joe- In fact, I just went to my companies plan this past Open enrollment in order to save a whopping $80 after going to a way lower deductible and adding vision and dental. But I'm sure you are a democrat and expect me to pay your way - and likely no way to change your opinion with fact and such nonsense... The healthcare problems has been made much worse by Obama's policies and lack of leadership. By the way Joe- did you know his healthcare plan includes provisions that require YOU to pay tax if you sell more than $500 worth of gold or silver to anyone, any coin shop or any individual??? About Page 9,100.
Yeah Joe- that's an obviously important and necessary part of Your presidents health care plan. Dumb from the start- and since most supporters obviously took Peloski's lead and haven't read it yet- Since you'll have to PASS it to find out what's in it... Did you read it Joe? Or do you want to just take the party on it's word since it must be right...

Yes! People around my age were going to school under the "get a degree, you will make six figures" notion, and everyone since then, apparently. Even if college isn't the right path, or the chosen degree is highly competitive, colleges were happy to draw you in and charge you, and the government was happy to loan out money because it was a safe investment, hopefully with more degree earners making more money to tax in the future. But it's not as easy as getting a piece of paper, everyone's finding out. Some places are just degree mills. As a teacher, I see the thousands of newly minted teachers being churned out of programs that give them the bare minimum of content and pedagogy training, into a market that is already flooded with teachers and not enough jobs. Definitely not a good equation.

And look out, I went to one of THE most liberal colleges in America :laughing7:

There was no disrespect-- just facts- here's more info on both fact is you don't believe me.

The Affordable Care Act will set a standard for minimum essential health benefits that must be provided by insurers, and health care will be offered in four levels of plans (Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum). You will be allowed to pick your plan and you may receive tax credits depending on your income. You will be responsible for paying the remainder of the premium. Co-pays and other outside costs will depend on the plan chosen. Your contribution is determined based on a sliding scale from 2 percent to 9.5 percent of household income if you are within 133-400 percent of the federal poverty level (about $30,600 - $92,000 for a family of four in 2012).
For example, if a family of four with a household income of $50,000 picks the silver plan (approximately $11,000), they may qualify for a subsidy of about $7,700 to help pay for health insurance. The family will be responsible for paying about $275 per month in insurance premiums to cover the remaining cost of the insurance plan.
----Who get's penalized? ME---I make 420% more than the poverty level- so I get NO tax credit, Pay the FULL amount- and If I don’t pay for the healthcare- I’ll pay a penalty Tax after 2014- yeah that’s fair- stupid me for getting a job, keeping a job, and having the drive an determination to working hard at it for 60-80 hours a week for the last 25 years…

Section 9006 of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act will amend the Internal Revenue Code to expand the scope of Form 1099. Currently, 1099 forms are used to track and report the miscellaneous income associated with services rendered by independent contractors or self-employed individuals.

Starting Jan. 1, 2012, Form 1099s will become a means of reporting to the Internal Revenue Service the purchases of all goods and services by small businesses and self-employed people that exceed $600 during a calendar year. Precious metals such as coins and bullion fall into this category and coin dealers have been among those most rankled by the change.

This provision, intended to mine what the IRS deems a vast reservoir of uncollected income tax, was included in the health care legislation ostensibly as a way to pay for it. The tax code tweak is expected to raise $17 billion over the next 10 years, according to the Joint Committee on Taxation.

Not only does it Tax Gold- but ANYTHING you sell for a profit or make money on- Antiques, Lumber, Mowing someone’s yard for $100 every two weeks- if it exceeds $600 in the calendar year- you owe!
-Sure, why not include this in the Healthcare bill- One more nail in a small business owners coffin. They already have a hard enough time getting started- they probably wouldn’t even notice another burden such as this paperwork nightmare for nearly every decent job they do… But guess what- I's not just for Small Business- It's for ALL Taxpayers!
The details come when you actually DO a 1099 and find a 28% tax if sold within the first year it was bought- and 15% any time period thereafter. Guess what- It’s not just for a small business- it any income from any source, for any individual.
You Joe- if you sell it on ebay and make $600 in one year and can’t prove a Cost basis- You owe on the full amount. $168 buck of that $600 for obama’s freeloaders. As such a loyal supporter of your kings plan- I’m sure you’ll spend hours making sure you pay your fair amount right- right Joe? You did post quite a few things for sale recently- Let us know how much you pay in…

Which party is that? You'd be surprised how many "handouts and freebies" Repubs partake of - whether knowingly or not. And if they know - they'll certainly never admit it.
