Finally got out to detect at my grandparents a little and found a nice brass lock and an old perfume container.

I'll have to get a pic of the perfume container later.

Cool padlock. From what I can find, it was likely manufactured between 1901 and 1918 when the company was still using the Norvell Shapleigh name on their products. Has some value as well according to what I've found out about it. Here's a link with more info on it...

ANTIQUE PADLOCKS - Norleigh Diamond with key (03/16/2013)

Too bad you haven't found the key yet, it's nice looking as well.

I looked for a couple days after I found the lock to try and find the key but no such luck.

I really thought I would find some silver there but nothing but newer coins

Keep hunting it. If that early 1900's padlock was there, there's almost certainly some silver around as well. Just gotta hunt it down.

I will keep looking still new and trying to learn the detector.

That's a large part of the job right there, learning to interpret what your detector is telling you. It'll never tell you everything you want to know, but with time and experience you'll learn to fill in the blanks.

I'll keep working on it.
Thanks Jedi

That's a very cool lock. Love the design.

Here is the perfume container It seems to be made of copper unfortunately I hit it with the shovel while digging it.

Hello txtreasureship. Nice finds. That is a great lock, must be all brass 'cuz the ring is intact. Relics like that and the perfume piece are always welcome finds.

Thanks for the post and good luck with that site. C9

I was really excited about both finds. It is all brass I was really surprised that while cleaning it the ring started to move.

That is awesome! I just love it!

You could probably soak that lock in kerosene for a couple weeks and it'd clean up nice with out removing the patina.

That would be great that's really the only thing keeping me from doing anything to it. The only thing I've used is a toothpick and a dry toothbrush.

I wouldnt mess with it... leave it just how cool it is. :))

very cool lock, just awesome in design
