Grass seed prices are up

Are they similar to a locust here I am thinking they are worms on the ground.
Where are they from and I recall many years ago the locust were very very bad and trucks had these large fans that pointed upward and they would spray pesticides and everyone was told to stay inside and keep the windows closed
They are in caterpillar stage when they destroy your yard.

check this out Buffalo grass.. seeds only grows about 3 inches tall so you don't have to mow it it grows like a thick carpet
Thank you I don’t recall seeing this in the stores here do you think it would work ok in NY and will it come up every year

Ok that’s what the gypsy moths also do
I wonder if these are related
These will eat all the plants and leaves so so quickly and the roads turn a nasty color as so so many get crushed by cars. There’s several acres of trees around that never recovered from that time

Perhaps. Not sure, brother. Will have to research that.

I went to buy fertilizer for my lawn and flower beds today. Last year I paid $11.95 for a 50 pound bag of Rainbow 16-4-8 and the same brand 10-10-10.
Today it was $25.00 a bag. I bought one bag of 16-4-8 for my flowers. The grass will just have to do without.
Oh yeah, I have already cut my grass 4 times this season.

Such high prices these days it’s difficult to try save some money anymore
That’s amazing that you mowed four times already ..I imagine that your yard must be very beautiful with the flowers and trees these days

Everything had greened up here and then we had a late hard freeze! It killed or stunted a lot of my flowers. The grass turned brown over night but it is finally getting green again. Luckily, although hurt by the freeze all our daylilies seem to be OK and should start blooming in two or three weeks.

It’s the same weather conditions here..The temps start to increase and we get the urge to go and purchase some plants etc.then the frost hits..I also love the Lilly’s especially yellow
Take care
It’s advised that frost can occur even in late May.

Last year we had a Gypsy Moth outbreak.
Probably have another wave this year.
Took out full size trees stripped them bare.
24/7 it was raining caterpillar $hit like what it sound like after a rain and the drips are still coming off the tree canopy.
Spent hours everyday picking, brooming, hosing, spraying.
That pail was filled every couple of days.
The picture is what it looked like after a hour sitting next to the pine tree.

Can’t mow yet here the grass is just starting to turn green in places...it’s a ongoing project every year. The deer are always in the yard and they love to pull the grass out of the ground and the skunks in the fall love the grubs (the Japanese beetles ) and they rip everything up.
I love the smell of cut grass also
It seems that we have the same issues here as you for the Japanese Beetles.
Seems that the only way to beat them is to spread Nematodes.

The two nematodes that are most effective against Japanese beetle grubs are Steinernema glaseri and Heterorhabditis bacteriophora. The latter is commercially available. When using nematodes, remember they are alive and have a fairly high oxygen requirement.

I requested some last year for my berry patch 1 acre would of cost $450 approx.
The company finally called me when the season was over, and the ground was freezing up.
Gee thanks for the quick response.

In the " good old days" they were dealt with DDT.You could even buy a fogger attachment for your mower.

In 1972, EPA issued a cancellation order for DDT based on its adverse environmental effects, such as those to wildlife, as well as its potential human health risks. Since then, studies have continued, and a relationship between DDT exposure and reproductive effects in humans is suspected, based on studies in animals.

In 1992 it was still sold openly in Fiji at most stores that had regular supplies.
Fogging of stores was a regular even still in Java-ah those mangos were so good till we witnessed this happing.

It seems that’s some powerful material to apply
