Gravers, Lets see yours.

Well I have been picking these up for a while now. These are my most resent ones. I have others from the past 6 months. I was wondering what they were for a while now. They have a small tip on them and I faced them to the camera so you can see the tool ends. If you notice they really dont show much work except the nub end. They used a Graver for incising bone and wood from what I have read. All periods used them so it is hard to say what period these were made in. Id like to see other ones that everyone else has found so post yours. Thanks, rock

I call it my duck head graver. It actually has three spurs. And you probably see the dark colored "duck head" I think the knapper did too.

Good stuff guys.This is one of my favorite pieces. It is a burin on a Haskett base. A burin is like a heavy duty graver.

Gravers, Tools and Perfrators. I put the best ones in a small frame. They are different sizes and do move around in the frame. I would like for them to stay in one place. Should I glue these in with a drop of Elmers? What does everyone else use?

Don't glue.. put them on a padded backing and put a lid with a hinge on it.. just a piece of glass with a wooden frame around it is fine.. put a little latch hasp on it so you can hook it closed and the glass presses them into the backing and they stay put. You can buy Riker mounts very cheaply.. they accomplish the same thing.

That is a riker frame but the sizes are different on the tools some thin and some thick. It wont hold them in place.

Ahhh.. I got you.. Try folding up some newspaper And placing it Under the padding Behind the smaller pieces Raising them up to the glass.

Thats a good idea. I was thinking on different levels of padding but either way should work. Thanks for your help.
