Ive read to use silicone grease and Ive read to use dielectric grease and Ive read that they are the same thing and Ive read that they are different. I want to put some on my battery contacts before I put my new detector in the water. Is silicone grease the same thing as dielectric grease and if not which should I use?

Don't know the answer but you can buy silicone grease a pool supply stores. It's used to lubricate o rings. I use it with no problems. Hope this helps

They have this in the depot plumbing section, under. $3.00, I'm sure others have options as well to direct you to.

Would that be the same as the silicone you buy at the dive shops? If so I appreciate the savings. Go Phins

sponge using smoke signals.

The Telephone thinks silicone is the Best. all phone lines in the World use it. I use it for over 35 years. I have never had a leak and always had good connections. That should tell you some thing. Use the SILICONE ,it's the best !!

I go to the auto-supply store and get Permatex dielectric grease. In my way of thinking, you want grease that says its for electrical use. How much did you pay for your Excal? Do you want to diminish its capabilities for the sake of saving a couple bucks? Just saying. :dontknow:

I agree. I dont care what it costs. I want to use whats best. The owner manual says minelab applies silicone grease from the factory but I cant see anything on mine.

Hey metalhealth,

Not sure as far as battery contacts. I have inquired to the Minelab techs as to the use of silicone grease on my waterseal gasket on the battery connection to the control box of my CTX 3030. I was told via email by the technician on 8/26/13, to use a product called "Molycote 111 from Dow Corning. We use it in house" It is not expensive, and is easily available. I use it as an added measure of confidence in the integrity of that seal. ( I am not thrilled with the tiny gasket design of that important connection) I have had good results using it, (no water intrusion), and the Minelab tech endorsed it. HH
