GREAT FIND.....EXCEPT HOLES DRILLED IN IT

I went with my Mom and Dad to an old leveled Store from back in the early 1900's. There wasn't much of an area to detect, but after awhile of finding some odd stuff, we ended up finding this 1832 half dime!!!!!!! The only sad thing is, someone had drilled holes at top and bottom, but my first coin none the less, and we had a lot of fun looking for it. I might make this into a necklace or something, definitely we are going to keep this because this is a treasure from a great day of detecting.

That's a great find. As you may know, it is difficult to score a capped bust silver.

I'd like to see some of the "odd items" you found as well. I'm sure there are some great relics in there--and we can help identify them for you.

That looks like it was mounted on to something wooden. Maybe it was the store's "First Nickel". You know how some mom & pop stores still tape their First Dollar Made on the wall near the register. It's a good luck thing!

Nice One!

Looks like someone made a child's toy out of the coin. You loop string through the holes a when you pull the ends of the string the coin will spin one way as you loosen up on the string then you pull it again and the coin spins the other way. You can do the same thong with a big two button.
Nice find you get a toy and a coin all in one.
Congratulations!

Great first find. I think you should make a neckless from it for good luck.
There are special neckless frames made to do just that for coins.
Good luck and keep looking.

Sounds like a fellow 'enthusiast' struck a nice find today. That will serve to keep your passion high as my BDD friends say  Looks like the coin may have been on a relic board or something of that nature. Either way, its a NICE find. Great job bud!!

THAT MIGHT BE ONE OF THE BEST COINS YOU EVER FIND
I WONDER WHAT TOOL WAS USED TO DRILL THOSE HOLES,
EVEN WITH MODERN TOOLS I THINK IT WOULD BE HARD TO DRILL A COIN.

Thanks for all the comments, I will check this area out some more soon, and post anything I find. I am really curious as to what put those holes in the coin, it almost looks like somebody heated something small and melted the holes in it, is that possible with a coin??? Just curious.

Thanks all, and good luck top all!!!

For your first coin, that one is a doozy! You may never find another one better, but let's hope you do! Congratulations on a great find!
