I hit two different sites today, one Ft Ancient and one mostly Archaic. Did well at both.

The Ft Ancient site gave up a really nice Sandstone Disc, a Pottery Disc, two Shell Disc Beads, two Bone Beads, three Points, and some Pottery.

The Archaic site gave up a really nice Side Notch type and a couple decent field grade pieces plus a Scraper.

Picture 7 shows what I was looking through. I almost walked right past the second Disc Bead.

Good hunt for sure. I like the little flat round beads. Was that side notcher on the side of that clod when you found it? Cool

Yes. I almost walked right by it. If I hadn't veered to tell my buddy bye I would been on the other side of that clod. I turned to leave and saw it on the side on the clod. Love finding them like that. lol

Great Hunt for sure!

Very nice finds.

The long bone beads resemble the broken stems of colonial clay pipes that I see frequently on my walks. Sometimes I pick them up. I hope I haven’t walked past bone beads. Can you post more photos of these?

Not sure, but Is there cortex on the blade face of side-notched point, or does the base look like a salvaged or reworked point?
Your thoughts?

Sorry, didn't see your last question about the Side Notch Point until just a while ago.

Its not cortex. This type of material will have a grainy look to it in spots on the surface. It will feel rough there too and not smooth like most Flint/Chert does. I believe this material is a variation of Carter Cave Flint/Paoli Chert which is very prevelant in my area.

I found this Lost Lake in the early 80's within 100 yards of the Point in this post and it is the same material. You can see the same grainy area on the base and the tang on both sides.

Good pictures, and a great example to illustrate. I can see that the grainy section goes all the way through the point.

I really appreciate your willingness to teach. We have different variations in then composition of local materials here. And some will weather badly and another will barely weather at all under the same conditions.

I may make a post regarding this.

Thanks again
