Gun trigger?

Ny idea what this is? It's got a nice patina so it's got some age to it. Seems it's from a cast but crudely made.

Has nothing to do with a gun. My first thought was an old wrench for the old time square nuts. But the handle seems to be to short for that. So I'm thinking a cog or stop or ratchet pawl on some sort of machinery. Where did you find it? On farm land where it might be part of a farm implement?

Found it in the woods. You know the hand cranks on a boat trailer or winch it seems like it would be the part that clicks on the gear that stops it from retracting. I now agree it looks like a tool piece.
