Well guys I had to go back and give it one more swing before work and I got my first shield nickel. I believe I’m seeing 1877. I wish these dates were easier to read. Any tips on getting a better read let me know. Thanks for sharing in my joy [emoji1317] IMG_2539.webpIMG_2540.webp

UPDATE!! My friend tokensmith just brought to my attention that mine has the rays.... I didn’t even realize it. I must be losing mind lol my appreciation to him.....so officially I have to say it’s a 1867 Shield Nickel with Rays!!!

Feels like I just had a child

Congrats on the shield nickel. I found my one and only in about '97, all I could make out on it was the shield and a couple of stars, laid around about 3 years waiting for me to figure out how to get the super hard crust off in till I finally lost it. Truth I tell you, your one dedicated detectoristand I'm a sloth, lol.

Lol sloth. Man I’m crazy for this detecting. I’m a very addicted personality people and since I had to do away with all my vices years and years ago I’m glad I found this. It gives me the same rush as when I hit $16,000 at the casino!!! Lol .......well close :))

Nice, congrats! Bet that made the last swing feel better. Nice looking nickel, wonder if you can get light at different directions to see the date a little better looking from above with some magnification. Shame that coins look nice and the date ends up being the first thing to get a bit toasted. Let us know if you figure out the date.:icon_thumright:

I got this thing under super magnification and it’s still hard. I heard the 77 had raise so maybe it’s a 67.

That's actually a pretty nice one. Every one I've ever found has been burnt toast.

Yeah I’m pleased. That first felt gooooood I tell yeah. It knocked me back on my butt and I just started laughing like a madman.

Nice find. Congrats! :occasion14:

With Rays, tokensmith is correct, better than your run of the mill shield nickle. Congrats!

I swear I didn’t even realize that this one had the rays!!! Lol

You've been hitting the good stuff! Nice find.

We'll Done Truth......Again.

I have found four shield nickels with only two that have a legible date. That is a great find! I am pretty sure that the rays were only on the 1866 and 1867 shield nickels so if it has rays then it is definitely not an 1877 and has to be an 1867! Congrats on the bucket lister!

Fantastic! Another amazing recovery! I am very happy for you, and thanks for sharing your finds with the rest of us - it's inspiring!

wow you have been on a roll!!

All my best coins are old toasted copper that looks like junk to any normal person and can’t be displayed. 🤬

I have several 1700 copper that are pretty much just a fuzzy green round disc. Aaarrrgh.

Which is why I get pissed at the people who tell me no when I ask permissions and they say not to ‘disturb the historical blah blah blah’..... yea sure, it is sooo much better to let it rot!! [emoji107]

Try even getting anyone to pay $9 for even 1% of your finds.... what the internet or ‘book’ says is not reality.
