So I managed to get a day off of work. I Left the house with my metal detector, back pack for finds, a tree stand, a bow and a back pack for deer hunting. I was ready for some fun! My first stop was a house from the early 1900's I recently obtained permission to metal detect. I was not finding much in the yard so I headed for the woods. As I went down a hill in a ditch line I came across an old dump site. Nothing special but I figured I would do a little bottle digging anyway. After digging out a two man saw that was about 4 foot long and a few bottles, I flipped over a old rusted piece of sheet metal. That's when the so called fun began. It turns out it was covering a yellow jackets nest. I took off running like a mad man,but not fast enough. I was covered in yellow jackets and they were stinging the crap out of me. By the time I made it out of the woulds I was half naked and smacking myself like a ****** right in front of the house. I thought great, they are probably looking out the window saying what's this idiot doing? To make it worse I had to go back and get my backpack that was sitting next to the hive. After finding a long stick, I was able to fish it out without getting stung again. I don't even know how many times I was stung. I hit the road and called my wife to tell the story and she said I should go to the hospital. I said why, did you see a deer there? Obviously, deer hunting was more important. Anyway, I did manage to see a few deer and I made it home without killing myself. Back to work tomorrow.lol

Hope you get a deer and those darn squirrels and yellow jacket leave you hunt whatever you get to hunt. Good luck and don't forget your harness. Hope you get to keep your shirt on next time.

Yellow jackets can be very vicious little fellers, can't they? In hot weather their stings can almost make you pass out! Oh, by the way, it was me who video taped you coming out of the woods!!!

Wow, that sounds like a heck of a day. I like how you went on for the deer hunt anyway. I bagged a doe last Saturday around 4 p.m. with my Diamond Outlaw. Good luck with all your hunting.

Pics of my doe or Bobbyw stripping? :dontknow:

Sure you hit record?lol

Sorry. No pictures of me naked and crying.

Don't feel too bad it happened to me when I was a teenager. I was digging around a bottle/can dump and got zinged. I knew what it was and took off running, but at least I didn't take off my clothes! I ended up with 30+ stings. Yellow jackets hurt. I would rather get stung by wasps. I am very careful to this day when I get around metal or cans outside in the woods. I have never had it happen again thank goodness!

Haha, I actually did not get pictures of the doe. It was my first deer with a bow too. I do have a picture of what was left of my arrow and broadhead but I stayed in the stand until 7:30 or so hoping to see a buck and just wanted to field dress it and get it to the processor. Also didn't mean to jack your thread Bobbyw ><

This might help for the next time, PERMETHRIN:

And completely safe to humans ...

I don't think that premethrin would help because they are in defense mode when they get you and all it takes is one to sting and it releases a pheromone for the others to attack. That is why you can't get stung just once when you get into a nest. Premethrin works good against ticks and repels mosquitos though, and it works good on fire ant nests.

Red and I had A Similar Problem this Last Weekend The yellow jackets would Not Leave Us Alone!!! But It Did Not cause any Stripping!!! O well :laughing7: Chug But it was Close a few times!!!! HH Chug

hope your ok , I bet your in pain because ground yellow dwellers are bad news . Have a bee horror story as well .
I was weed trimming around the back yard and hit a huge underground hive last week , the ground yelller jackets stung me at least a dozen times , terrible burning feeling took benydrl and antibiotics ,. Monday, same hive near the house , yellow jackets flew into the car and stung my wife , my lady is highly allergic and she had to use a epi prin shot , Wed. the bees attacked my little dog .
Grrrrrrrr:angry9:
Finally had enough ,
SOoo Last night I poured two gallons of gasoline on the nest and sent them blazin' to fackin' ell ...........

You got to really want a dime to dig it out of a fire ant mound. There ain't nothing worse or funnier than watching someone do the fire ant dance. The little suckers get all the way to your crotch before they begin biting. Nasty little critters.

Was out wildcrafting skullcap few years ago got into bumble bee nest they like entergizer bunny just kept stinging no fun

From what I understand, most bees are not only attracted by that pheromone but also by the carbon dioxide you emit when you panic and hyperventilate. The calmer you are, the less CO2, and the less you will get stung.

The Yellow Jackets generally let me know who is boss at least once or twice per year. I used to bush hog for several different people and with a ROPS tractor it is a given that you will get torn up a few times. Long story short I wrecked a crotch rocket and train wrecked my back and ended up selling my farm. No longer have a tractor >:(. For some reason nothing (flying and stinging) seems to hurt me as bad as the Yellow Jackets. It is not the sting itself but the fact that I am hurting worse 2 or 3 hours after than when I was first stung. Hate them critters. Good news is metal detecting is the perfect therapy for the back. Try to get of work early enough to go pretty much every day and occasionally go in the mornings and start work late. One of the few perks of being self employed. So long as I walk every day and stay active the pain is tolerable on the back. Had a little trouble convincing the wife ha ha.

What a sight that must have been.

At the beginning of this month I was out wildcrafting bloodroot. I saw a big patch deep in a thicket of brambles, burdock, and thorn bushes, so I carefully and slowly weaved my way through the thick undergrowth towards the patch. I was wearing sandals, shorts and a t-shirt so the thorn canes were scraping my legs, but when I looked down that last time to see what jabbed me, I saw that the pain was from a yellow jacket stinging my left knee and not a thorn. As i swatted it away, I realized that I was in the center of a swarm of the evil things and in a few moments I was covered in them. I hooted and hollered as I fought unsuccessfully to plow through the thorn bushes, and ended up rolling over the thorns headfirst downhill. I lost my sandals a few times as I tore through there to get to the creek. Wound up getting stung well over 40 times, scraped and cut all over by the thorns, and had burdock clusters firmly stuck in my long hair. The pain was bad but the itchiness was maddening. Went through 2 boxes of Benadryl and 10 days later I'm still itchy. If I was in an open field I could have ran away, but being stuck in thorn bushes while getting stung everywhere was pretty scary. My dad used to keep bees on a piece of land in Appalachian Pennsylvania, and when I was 5 I remember walking up the hill to see how things were going. Imagine my surprise when I look up to see him tearing downhill bellowing "GET TO THE TRUCK! GET INSIDE THE TRUCK!!" Immediately it reminded me of Indiana Jones sprinting from the horde of natives yelling "START THE PLANE!!" :laughing7: Man that was scary. He got stung 60-70 times and went into anaphylaxis but thankfully had an epi-pen so he was able to make it into town where he got someone to drive us to the hospital. I got stung 6 times and was fine but he was in bad shape, and that's what was going through my mind as I was fighting to free myself from the thorns and get away from the swarm. For a few moments I thought I was done for. Never had anything like that happen before, and hopefully never again. Well that's my story, lol. Be careful out there guys.

You are most correct on that......the same thing goes with the fire ants, they respond to the heavy breathing (CO2). And, bees (Bumblebugs or honey) respond to tones emitted by speakers or headphones. When I worked for the phone company, I had my handset speaker connected to a line outside of a mobile home, put a tone generator on a line inside and when I came outside, the handset was covered in Bumble bees. They left to their nest under the trailer after I turned off the warble tone.
