Before clad there was 40% Kens. Before 40% there was 90% Kens. Before 90% Kens there were Franklins. Before Franklins there were Walkers. And before walkers there were Barbers!
I'll call it beginners' luck, but I've probably been through less than $300 of halves in the last 3 months (not enough cash in my high school wallet to order boxes), but I scored big today. I got into my favorite bank where I got my second 40%er earlier this month and asked for halves like usual. I got $30 in CWRs, and the teller closed the drawer, but I thought I saw silver rims in the loose halves in there. So I asked for those too. The first thing the teller does is pass me the Barber and ask if I want that too. My eyes must've gotten as big as basketballs, but I (somewhat) calmly said, "Ohh, that's an old one. I'll definitely take that." Then I paid my $34.50 for the rolls and loose and got out of the bank as fast as I could to do a little victory dance. Then I looked through the loose and saw a 1969-D and a 1964 as well and did another dance! But I couldn't believe my eyes. A Barber! 1914-S in about AG-3 to be exact. I couldn't wait to get to the rolls, and I opened them right then and there, but all clad.
But I think it's time to go buy some 2x2s so I can keep this beauty safe!

In other news I also went through $15 in pennies and managed 6 wheats:
1958-D
1957-D
1952-S
1946
1939
annnnd
1917!

But that's nothing next to my beautiful new Barber

Love it!! Nice find dude

I've searched through over 480,000 half dollar coins, but have only found one Barber thus far. And I didn't even find it...my son did while I stepped away from the table to do something else! They are beautiful coins and I'm so glad to have even just one.

To bad that it was an "S", without the "S" it was $100.00 coin. One of the lowest mintages years to be had.

I just cannot comprehend when someone's life revolves around money (working at a bank) and than they don't know Old coins are worth $$$

I've had tellers say that they thought mercs were foreign or other garbage.

Yes,it's very exciting to find a Barber. But honestly Barber is very dull coin and the Liberty looks like a man.

From what I've read Yinzi, the general public was not happy with the Barber design, and thought it quite plain. I will say that the reverse is very attractive.
