Haircuts are just a dime!

Since we were expecting an ice storm in our area, I picked up some dimes tonight.

I bought $80 worth of CRW, plus $550 in Strings.

I just about fainted when, in the very end of one of the CWR, I found:

A 1914D BARBER DIME

I have to admit, finding a Barber dime has never been an expectation or a goal. I thought that finding a Barber would be too rare of a find, especially for me, even though they are found by others on our forum.

She is well worn, and missing all of the reeding, but you can easily read the date, and all the words.

I tried to take a pic with my iPhone, but the pics suck. I'd still send them to someone for posting (I am too dumb to post pics here).

The customer wraps also gave up two 1964's, but the $550 in String rolls was nothing but skunk.

A very FUN day today while hunting for silver. I was totally caught off guard when I pulled that Barber!!!!

I've still never found a barber yet myself and I'd sure be shocked to find one as well.

I know you've been having a tough time with halves of late so I'm sure glad to hear about your great success today. I hope this will be the start of better days ahead for you.

Thank you for the replies, and thank you for sharing my excitement.

Once again, finding a Barber hasn't even been on my radar. Finding Barbers isn't unheard of, but since I only work a dime box per week, on average, I figured that I might CRH for the rest of my life and never find one in the wild.

I was shocked to say the least.

I do have one question though:

Who on earth would put a 1914D Barber dime in a roll? What kind of person does something like that? I can understand finding the two 1964's...but the Barber? And as an ender?

^ a very ignorant person would put a barber dime as an ender of a dime roll. Not knowing it was silver, or that it was a barber from 1914d, they probrably thought it was a foreign coin. Their ignorance means we get to reap their losses. Congrats on the 1914d BARBER dime

I would have personally said "1914d" in the title excluding the dime. Most people would immediately think the penny.

Hope there are plenty more to be found. I don't think i'll ever get a barber dime in my lifetime, but you just never know! :icon_sunny:

I've often thought the same thing when finding silver half dollars @ the bank - whether just loose or sometimes even solid rolls. We can never really know why it happened - we can only just be thankful that since it did, we are the ones who found them.

Who knows with your dime roll - maybe someone was just trying to fill the roll and carelessly used a Barber to finish the roll. If that was the case good for you though because otherwise you might have just got a short roll instead of finding the Barber.

The Barber design would appear to be a foreign coin to most folks, probably how they end up in rolls. The half-dozen I've found were all in different String dime boxes.

Don't get me wrong...I am not complaining about the Barber!!!!

Of course, I thought the same thing when I found a Merc in CWR. What type of person slips a Merc into a roll?

I have also wondered if these rolls could be filled with someone with poor eyesight.

Congrats!!
I have never found a merc or barber dime.
But I don't hunt dimes much dimes. Usually only $50 or so every week or two.
I just stick to halves, but I do have a barber half to show for it.
