Half boxes dated April 9, 2011?

All my boxes were previously marked with a 4 digit code like 4379 or something like that.

I just recently started getting boxes that are dated April of 2011.

I have found a couple 40%ers, but this has me wondering if this is bad.

I got them from 2 different banks, but I'm pretty sure they both get their coins from the same place.

Should I start looking for a new pick up bank?

These are the long single-stack NF String Boxes, right? Mine had a 4 digit code for a while - 3980, and then switched to CWI dated boxes. I am not positive, but I think it means that you bank's supplier is getting their boxes from a different source - that or CWI has changed their box marking methods. I don't know whether that is bad or good. My first couple of dated boxes were skunks, but my April ones have been producing a little. I would say just keep working through them.

Yes they are exactly marked that.

Today's box was a skunk.

The stamp on it said:

CWI
April 6,2011
Inspected by (couldn't read the name)

I'll stick it out for a few weeks and see what happens.

I like using the banks I use because they use a different supplier than my dump bank.

Today's box of skunk had this printed on it.

I really hope this is not the start of a skunk streak for me. There were soooooo many new coins. Lots of older 70s coins as well, but far too many newer coins for my liking.

I wonder how the process works.

Have I been buying newly sorted boxes all along and just not being aware of it or are they stock piled and taken when needed?

I didn't think they were sorted so recently to purchase.

I just got 2 boxes that were dated March 2011... I'm not a fan of these recent boxes! 1 skunk and the other had 1 40% and 1 that looks like a Silver proof 2007. Not sure if that one is 90%?

Either way, I want a box dated 1978 if I must get one with a date!

The most I got out of these dated boxes was 2. I've gone through about 6 dated boxes and 5 were skunks.

The week before I started getting these dated boxes I got 30+ 40%ers four the 4 digit boxes.

I really hope these boxes don't last. I still have 1 left waiting for me and I'm not looking forward to picking it up because I already feel like it's going to be a skunk.

That may be a pallet you have to power through. I got some like that a couple of years ago. I'm sure some of them were productive. You are just hitting a random skunk streak and because you see the new marking you are drawing the wrong conclusion. They are probably no different than the four digit ones.

Slightly off topic, I was wondering if anyone knows what those four digit codes mean. I've seen over half a dozen numbers in the last six months including the same number on halves and dimes. I was thinking they are a QC persons code number.

If it is a proof it'll have a mirror finish on both sides (though, being in circulation now, it'll probably be scratched up a bit). It'll also have a deep image (they get stamped twice, and with higher pressures than regular issue coins). You will know if it is a proof - there's no real doubt either way. Note, if it is silver there will simply be no red on the rim. I have gotten 4 clad proofs in the last few months, and their rims are BRIGHT red (and also seem to be wider than the typical half, though this isn't the case). IOW, there will be no doubt if it is silver or clad. If silver, it'll be 90% - but don't sell it for bullion value, it isn't "junk" silver. A dealer might pay you a bit more, or you can try selling it on Ebay or Craigslist.
