These all came from the same field. Points found there were almost entirely of the “small stem” type seen in the center of the small frame. So one might assume many of the scrapers were salvaged from such points.

But, every one of these pieces has a straight edge leading edge. None of the leading edges are beveled. If not beveled, are they even scrapers at all? Tiny cutting tools?

Are all rounded points like that considered scrapers? Couldn't they also be "blunts" for arrows? I've seen modern blowgun darts and arrows with blunt tips for small game (squirrels, rabbits, etc) that these remind me of.

I myself have never bought in to the blunt theory. Why chance trying to stun something when you can kill it in the same motion? I have heard all kinds of thgts on them but I'm just not there with them.

Shooting small game with blunt arrows will kill them, you don’t have to use your sharpened points as you don’t need the penetration and you can use them for practice tips as well.

How many of the (blunts) are arrowheads? The bow and arrow is new tech so to speak. Many more were used with the Atlatl tech and some were used for small game but most were for bigger game and you weren't gonna stun them.

Some people in my area feel they were used on bigger birds like geese which we have here. The theory is that a true point would go straight through the birds but the blunt style will more likely stick in the middle of the bird but I guess we will never know.

I was speaking mainly on using blunts on arrows and from what I have read about Indians using them to hunt small game and my own personal bow hunting experience.
I’m not sure about using them with an atlatl. Most of the larger ones were probably used as scrapers or some other tool. I figure things were adjusted to used for whatever tool was needed at the time.

i personally don't think the hafted scraper was actually hafted on a shaft, but instead hafted on a handle tool.. Used for fleshing hides and the like.

Here are some I have found over the years. I have some in various fames, and then this single frome of hafted scrapers and some flake scrapers.

A sharp arrow can impale an animal where you can't get it, such as up a tree. Whereas a blunt arrow shot with the directed force of a bow can kill the animal by breaking it's spine or other blunt force damage.
