Thanks guys, for your input. Any idea what it might be made of. It does have some iron in it but it's like a hard clay like color.

Thanks guys, for your input. Any idea what it might be made of. It does have some iron in it but it's like a hard clay like color.
Without magnified images to go off of, I would suspect some sort of chert local to your area. Those little white flecks are likely fossil remains of tiny organisms trapped in the sediments from which that stone is comprised. The iron you speak of is actually "on" it, rather than "in" it. Probably some sort or staining, or surface deposit of an iron rich mineral such as siderite, or hematite. What is your location?

Edit: My apologies for not inspecting more thoroughly. I see the specs of orange/brown in the images better now. Those appear to be within, rather than on the surface of the matrix. Certainly some sort of an Iron oxide analog, limonite possibly..
