🔎 UNIDENTIFIED Hand axe or axe head? Or any other ideas?

Southern West Virginia. Found this out in the apple orchard with my dad in June 2023. On the site, I have found many points, filled multiple mason jars with debitage, a broken axe head, abraders, rubbed hematite, and a few nutting stones.
I don't know what kind of stone but it's not similar to the chert points I've been finding and seems less grainy than the nutting stones I've found.
The thickness of this piece is pretty uniform. The edges have obviously been worked. One face seems like it has been ground smooth. I don't see any notches where it could have been wrapped to secure it as an axe head, so that kind of leads me towards it being a hand axe. But I am only about 1 year into this new obsession of artifact hunting so I am not sure. Any thoughts or info would be greatly appreciated. I can send pics of other finds as well.
By the way it as an awesome moment finding it with my dad!

It almost looks like they started working it, then decided it was not going to suffice for the application.

Post it and your other finds in the North American Artifacts forum. That may be a crude chopper or as Dizzy said, they started it & said nope.
