Happy Dance - For Me, My First Indian Head

nealb · Jul 21, 2007

I haven't posted lately, as I've not had time to take any photos. I've been exercising every day, as I leave in 4 weeks for an abbreviated Army basic training (I'm prior service so I'm going to a 5 week transition course in New Mexico). It doesn't leave much time for anything else. I've gotten out 4 times in the past 2 weeks, and it's been pretty slim pickings. Total of 73 coins over 4 hunts, including 2 wheats (41 & 54) and my first Indian Head, 1889. Couldn't believe it when I gave it a quick rub and saw the points of the headdress. I wanted to shout, but there were some hikers nearby, and didn't want to draw attention to myself. Found it out in the middle of the woods in the old park I usually go to when I want to find something old. Found some other items as well, shell casings, a few slugs, a button and a cub scout pin and some other miscellaneous. The IH made my day.
I'm going to go back with a trash bag next time, as I know there's more old coins, but there's so much trash, that I will need to get through that first.

Hey Neal. Good job on the IH. Looks sweet.

You going to the White Sands Missle Range? I have spent a few months out there in New Mexico. Really liked the area. I was on a program(NASA space experiment) that did 6 different launches from the site using Black Brant Rockets.
