Havent bought yet, but am confused

Re: Haven't bought yet, but am confused

Start with the major players...Whites, Garrett, Minelab, Fisher, Bounty Hunter, and Tesoro. Determine what type of hunting you will be doing. Determine your budget. Read the reviews of the detectors you are interested in. Ask questions on the forum. There are some incredibly knowledgeable people on here.

Eddie said it best. Post your location, what you'll be hunting, where you'll be hunting and budget. We'll do the rest. Pretty easy....

Well first you have to ask yourself a few questions, cost, if you're fortunate enough that its not an issue awesome, what will you be using it for, coin/jewelry or relic or both, what type of ground will you be hunting in mineralization wise GB or not, do you want a screen or beep and dig, and something that's huge with me is after sale service from the manufacturer. Some folks may be concerned with weight. A detector with the option of using different coils for different situations maybe?

Can't tell you which detector, but can tell you one thing to consider when selecting one, and that is their weight. While I am just a weakling girl, and don't have much muscle power to speak of, I can tell you that a 3/4 - 1 pound difference in a detector makes a HUGE difference, especially when you have it in your hand for hours on end.

That's also very good advice...

Yes! The first thing I want to know about a new machine is it's weight. All electronics are a lot smaller than they used to be. Remember the huge cell phone that you carried in a bag? What about TV's. VCR's used to weigh a lot too. The Ace 250 weighs about 2.7 pounds. Prizm 2,3,4,5 weigh 2.5 lbs. Prizm 6t is 3 lbs. Tesoro uMax's are 2.2 lbs. It really looks like the Prizm 6t has the most feature to weight ratio. I hear White's is releasing 2 more units soon. So now I'm waiting to see what they are.

if you're into whites the vision looks very interesting(if money is no concern)

Re: Haven't bought yet, but am confused

If you are close to a dealer go and get your hands on different detectors. Plus you need to decide what type of hunting you will be doing ,that alone will make a big difference in determining what to purchase.

Re: Haven't bought yet, but am confused

one main thing you have to decide before you even start looking is are you going to only detect once or twice a year or are you going to do it alot.....then go from there,no sense in spending alot for it to hardly be used.

Very well said!

For most people starting out, the Garrett ACE 250 would be my choice. Easy to use, enough information on the display to get you started, and if you don't like the hobby, you can get 75% of your money back as there's always someone looking for one. You get to know tones (3), segments and how to notch them out, simple sensitivity adjustment, preset modes for coins, jewelry, all metal, etc. and a depth scale 2,4,6,8 inches to give you a good idea how deep you will have to dig.

Just my thoughts.

There is way to much information to list it all on this website. Suggest you visit http://www.tesoro.com/info/faq/generaldetecting/ first to learn more.

There is a lot to this hobby and it is the most fun you can do with your clothes on.

Sandman has a good link that is one of the few non biased articles put out by a factory one thing that drives me crazy is all these self promoting articles and treasure books (give it a rest) That article talks in general terms VLF verses PI ect.... Read it then print it and read it again if your serious you won't go wrong.. R/Mike
