Yesterday our tactic was to loosely grid the best area, it didn't turn out so great. Therefore, today, we reversed the plan & properly gridded in the least productive area, with the thought that we hadn't hit it so hard. Within 1 hour we knew todays tactic was working.:icon_thumright:

3 Hours effort (6 man hours)

2 Scrappies (from yesterday) Plus 2 Today
1 Lead Token
1 Royal Farthing
1 Livery Button
1 Unusual button (new type for us)
1 Lead Medieval Button (another first)
A Stunning 14th C Buckle with Plate & Pin! Rare to find in a ploughed field.8-)
A Sixpence & a Threepence
Hammered Shortcross which is double struck on both sides but has more of the reverse (shortcross) showing on each side. A first for us!:icon_thumright:

This saved an average weekend to a good one....

Outstanding buckle ! I've never seen one with that metal strap end still on it , Nice on the silvers too !

Great buckle Crusader. The coins and other relics are always nice, but an intact buckle like that one makes the day special.

I always love to see your finds, even if I don't know what half of them are. Gonna have to take the metal detector on a trip to the UK someday.

I have lots of buckles & just did a quick check, I have none of this period/type as complete as this one.:occasion14:

More complete would be with the belt still attached! Congrats, stunning buckle for sure! The double struck hammered is something i've never seen before!

Your finds are so cool, good work I know nothing that good comes easy!

Hammered - First one I have seen, & that includes all the research (& not just what we have).

The buckle was on the last run of the day before we did a little wander. I'm glad I didn't hit it.

Dave

Its normally described as a collared Dogs head, but I agree its pretty wild looking & almost griffin like.

Impressive hunt Cru - nice going!
