bronze swirly thing , possible gilding?


Found this on early site, may have silver plate or gilding,
going to clean it now, same area as 1826 cent

anybody know what it is from?

it has a square shaft, and a wafer thin raised decorative line on one side

I'm way out of my league here, but if you put a gun to my head and forced me to guess, I'd say it is a broken syrup tap.

Maybe a knife or sword?? Does the hole go all the way through?

from limited searching I cannot find a bronze one so far
