Hello T net prodigies: I found this item awhile back at a field from the 1800's possibly dating to colonial times. For a long time I thought it was a heel plate due to the shape and size but the rectangular part on the bottom makes me think not. My other guess is gun hardware? It clearly says Leadon for the first word Not sure what the second word is... Ma?E? It looks to have 5 characters with three being legible: Ma_e_ Any ideas on what it might be? Thanks for looking.

It certainly resembles one, but at the same time I'm not sold. Worked in the golf business a long time and have seen a lot of old clubs.

I very well could be wrong as wood clubs are way before my time :laughing7:- I'd be curious if someone can find an exact match on the name. I can't find anything.

You know your getting old when... you have to enlarge and sharpen most pics to see the details better. :laughing7:

I don't feel this is a heel plate though, if so, I don't think you'd be able to see the writing on the plate.
I'm thinking it reads 'London Maker'? :icon_scratch:
Possibly from a door latch or furniture hardware.

Based on the script design, I'm thinking it dates to the mid-19thc.

I'm still confident it is a plate off a "brassie" golf club (half of one, actually). I'm thinking first half of the 20th C. Maybe 20's or 30's.

I agree the second word is probably 'Maker', but I'm not convinced the first letter of the first word is an 'L'. I think the first word is a name.

The second letter of the first word looks like an "e".

I think that's a good guess but the shape of it doesn't look like it would go on a golf club. I see what you are saying here though.

I could see it as an interlocking half to that shape but the script on it seems like it would be oriented incorrectly for that?

Haven't seen an edge-on pic, but it appears to be far too thick
to be a base plate on a wood driver. I have a set of vintage
persimmon woods, and the base plates are actually quite thin.

I'm with Antiquarian..looks much more like part of a door latch.

The writing looks like Leader Maker to me. That sounds like it could be a type of golf club.
