Hello all first post to the site

I found this strange find this past Saturday (8/27) Its 1 1/2 inches long by 1 inch wide found in a grass field near my house (I live in Northern Idaho if that helps) The area used to be a small Horse and dairy farm many years ago.

I work at the University of Idaho, I show it to a co-worker and he suggested I show it to someone in the anthropology dept. That might be my best bet at an id.

Edit: I just wanted to look something up but my first impression was that it looks more African than north or central American. I couldn't find an example of any headdresses that "wrap around" the head. I have seen it in African warrior/shaman headdresses.

I think you are closer to it, Coach. I was thinking either Aztec, Mayan, or even Pau Pau New Guinean chieftain headdress. Hard to tell, but the African masks do frequently have the "widows peak" over the middle of the forehead! Sub

Aztec?...African?...dunno...
At first blush, my impression leans further north...
Could it be an effigy of a Northern native/Eskimo, Inuit, along those lines?...
The starburst rays are curious to me, used in many cultures.....
I think of old trade pieces from Alaskan pioneer days, stuff that you see on antiques roadshow...
Cool as hell, whatever it is...
