Went out on a two hour hunt today and found a keeper! These spots are still a holdin, each time I think they are spent, they produce more. It is a pretty nice Civil War General Service Eagle. Found it at about 2-3" down on the side of a slope with riflepits over looking it. They are getting harder and harder to find....I know the old timers around here, they use to throw the "Yankee" stuff back on the ground....MAN I sure wish I lived back in those days!!

HH,

Yeap, nice one Tsgman, you had a good day the other day and some nice dropped bullets. You did pretty good...Also, thanks Green1, I think that if you were ever down my way we could get together and do some diggin. ;)

Thanks xlt nh!

Very nice ! I used to hunt civil war stuff around Spanish Fort Alabama and I always wanted to dig a button but never did. The detector I had baqck then was almost useless. My hunting partners would dig ten bullets to my one.

That's a beautiful button! There's so much detail in the feathers.

Nice one!

Outstanding!
What state are you in? Except for the War of 1812, Michigan is kind of "in the rear with the gear". I envy you guys in other states your hunting grounds.

Sentinel, I'm sorely lacking in knowledge about CW buttons. General Service Eagles don't have an initial in the crest? If you have a button book suggestion, I'd appreciate it.

HH, keep 'em coming.

Cool button, {Sentinel}!

Great detail.

Always a pleasure reading your posts.

Thanks for sharing.

Hey Admiral de Salee, You are absolutely correct about the Eagle buttons! "General Service" have the 13 strips in the shield (symbolizing the first 13 colonies), Eagle with "I" in the shield is Infantry, Eagle "R" is Rifleman, Eagle "C" is Cavalry, General Service Eagles were the most wide spread buttons used by the Lincoln men aka Unionist aka Federals aka Yankees ;D ;)
Also I am in the Capital of the Confederacy, Virginia.

Great button, Senti! Keep 'em coming!!

Nana :)

Man, that's a nice one, much better than the one I found. Congrats, Senti!

;) RR

Hey, bud, you should PM cryptodave and tell him, "I am on my way over to take some pics of all those Seated coins you found at the general store." :D
