Hi everyone! I haven't started detecting yet and have not yet even purchased any gear. I need something to get me out of the house and need to get into a hobby as the past few years have been all work and family. Metal detecting seems like the perfect fit for me. I'm here to learn from the best and get advice on where to start. I see there is a ton of info here so I'm excited to jump in! :hello:

Hi there my Maryland compatriot!

Wanted to give you fair warning before you gear up and go out. Finding legal places to detect in the highly regulated state of MD can be difficult. No detecting in state parks! Certainly, no detecting allowed at historical sites. Not sure about county owned properties, but believe that they are more or less off limits also. Couldn't hurt to look this info up for your neighborhood. ALWAYS get permission before detecting on someone else's private property.

You can detect at outer banks beaches but it's restricted by time of year and time of day, if I recall correctly.

Sadly, my detector sits unused most of the year. Every once in a while providence strikes and an opportunity presents itself.

Forgot to add maybe there's a MD club nearby you can see and try different machines.

Hi from Ednor Gardens Baltimore. If you have a spot I have machines. I have a nox 600 deus, at pro, etc. I feel like I should warn you, like they did to me when I started smoking. " Don't get hooked!!!" Your wife will be upset when you're always late, your children will feel like servants digging holes for you, you'll have the fever,... It gets in your bones." That said, welcome to tnet. You actually don't even need a machine to find stuff. My buddy comes detecting with me and gets more jewelry in parking lots and sidewalks than i do with a fancy machine.
