I'm not one to put a damper on anyone's enthusiasm with regards to the continuing search for Yamashita treasures but we have to have a bigger or wider perspective when dealing with this type of search. Stone markings and their arrangements in the field have to be interpreted in a manner like "reading between the lines" as if one was reading a script.
A common source of misinterpretation are natural cleavages and fracture lines which form sign-like and symbol-like interventions attributed to human activity. Rocks and stones in a tropical or warmer climate are not exempt from the natural processes of weathering and these are the results of such a process spanning millions of years.
if a stone marking or sign is ever established as a result of man's interaction with his natural environment, then the question arises: is this the work of a pre-Historic human being or a mindless sculpted graffiti inscribed by a resting common soldier or form a part of an elaborate system of decoys and genuine landmarks employed in concealment of war booty-- WWII treasure of the Yamashita type or origin?
If the correct interpretation of such signs or markings is difficult enough, so is relentlessly extending a deep hole based on an unfounded hunch.

It's anybody's guess. I suggest you bring a competent or an expert reader of Japanese signs into your area and don't be embarrassed to ask questions. Natural cracks or fissures in stone can easily be identified.
