Please help me ID this horn/tooth and which animal it is from? Would be much appreciated if any help can be given. Its about 20 cm long

Thanks for the thoughts guys. Looking at sperm whale teeth after it was suggested im now pretty sure that it is that but il take it down my local auction house and let them have a look and see what they say

Whaling souvenirs, probably brought back by someone working on a Whaling ship. Definitely a Whale tooth, I'm going to say sperm whale though it could have been another species. Most of the Whale's they were hunting were species with baleen.

Is there a story behind it? How did you acquire it? Nice tooth. :thumbsup:

Not to sure of the story behind it my gran died and had to sort out her house and this was one of many finds in it sorry I cant provided any more of a story behind it

Nice tooth, That's a great piece of history.
though Baleen whales were hunted extensively, the prized and more valuable, (and dangerous) were the sperm whales, they yielded a much higher quality oil, in addition to Ambergris, which at times was worth more than gold by weight. :thumbsup:

I've seen Mastadon teeth recovered from the banks of the Arkansas River and they look similar, especially the blunt end. Monty
