Help Please With Mystery Pot/Crock

Earthenware, maybe? It is a glazed pot with unglazed, rough lip and base bottom, with a vent tube coming up the middle. Lid sits completely over the top of the pot with about a half inch overhang. Both pot and lid have attached handles. Lid is nine inches in diameter. Pot is seven and a half inches wide at mouth, five and a half inches at base, almost nine months inches in the middle. From bottom to top of pot is seven inches. Vent tube is five inches tall inside of pot and about a half inch thick the whole length of the tube.

Thank you so much! Do you know if you just set it atop another pot with water and then the steam goes through the vent? The bottom of the glazed pot doesn't appear to be sealed, do I need to put anything on it to protect it? Thank you so much for letting me know what it is!!
