Found this today. It looks to be percussion cap and I'm guessing early 1800's but I can't find the maker marks anywhere.

the crown on it makes me think English or Canadian. the only af I found was Andrew fogelberg in business from 1767 - 1815 but percussion was not until 1838 or later. good luck.

been doing some looking on the net for you.... from what I've found, the proof mark of AF under a crown is for August Francotte arms, and the proof mark of ELG in an oval with a star indicates a standard black powder load. if you research Francotte arms and can find a good site with lots of pics, you may be able to ID your piece. Hope this helps

Interesting find recondigger!

It's def an Francotte!! now it could either be Augusta Francotte or maybe a Francotte & May basically the same company under different periods! Francotte & May actually made percussion pistols and the caps that fired them! I would feel comfortable saying that barrell was made around 1853-1860! That's really all I can give you! Oh anyhow the crown AF was that company's proof mark see the pics I inserted! ELG* was another proof as you will read in my pics that particular proof was used 1846-1924!! I am a Master Gunsmith if you need any help with any other firearm let me know! Hope I shed a little light anyhow!! Oh and maybe send me a better shot of the barrel because u said you think it's percussion but I don't see that in your pics if its a muzzleloader pistol or percussion it's gonna be dated from 1893-1920 or so! I just can't tell from your pictures sorry!!

Introduced for handguns, 1846 to 1924. applied to barrels exported in rough state. Since 1925 reserved for muzzle loading pistols 1846 – present

Thank you very much

Nice find! Congrats and HH!

The Oval with ELG and a star indicates it's Belgian, What you've got I suspect is what's left of an old Screw Barrel muff pistol, They were made in both flint and percussion so the date range could be late 1700's to mid 1800's. Yours looks like a flintlock barrel to me though because I see what looks like the hinge point for the frizzen on top of the barrel.
