Hey guys, I was metal detecting one of the beaches on the treasure coast of Florida after Hurricane Nicole hit this week. The beach I was detecting has a known wreck and I was really excited since this was my first time detecting after a storm. Anyways, I found this piece of wood with a nail in it, among other things, and it looks like it could be really old. What do you guys think? Could it be part of the wreck?

Does look old andthe nail seem an early style, but other then that there's not much left to go on except find out what type of wood it is.

Hard to tell from pics. Is the nail square or round? Is the wood heavy or light in weight?
Not seeing toredo damage. Could have been buried under deep sand not exposed to the worm - if it was, it will rot and turn to dust along with the nail, if iron being exposed to air.

Someone may be able to help on here

The head of the nail is rounded and the shank seems to be round as well. The nail is also really corroded. The wood is not heavy at all.
