Found a very cool but really wasted piece of local history today. Hunting about 20-30 minutes from the historic Henry River Mill village at a 1924 home. Got a fairly decent signal and out came what I thought was a really bad penny . Got home cleaned it up and it is a Henry mill MFG co. Token/coin
Did a little research and found a non dug example and a cool little bit of info

?Henry River Mill Village was a completely sustaining town in its time, operating under its own currency?

For those unaware parts of the hunger games movie was filmed in this little village

Love finding local history
The words are pretty clear and I can make out the 5 on the front but it is super thin from its years in the ground . Keep swinging everyone

Historic find; congrats!
"[FONT=&quot]That history began about 1905 when the Henry River Manufacturing Co. established the mill in Hildebran in western North Carolina, about 70 miles (112 km) east of Asheville. The mill, which closed in 1970, burned down in 1977. It now includes a two-story company store and about 20 wood-frame textile workers' homes."

Cubic,
Right you are !!
Doogaloos, also known as scrip, were coins created to be used as currency in Henry River Mill Village. Doogaloos could be used only in the company store and the amount of scrips issued to tide workers between pay periods would be deducted from their paychecks. Made of zinc, Doogaloos came in different denominations.

The gift shop that it on site now has a few on display that will be part of their museum when it eventually opens. These are the only ones I’ve seen.
