Hey,that's not a half!

SANY0692 [640x480].webpSANY0694 [640x480].webpIt is funny ,I started a bit backwards and got into hunting big time when stationed in Europe so I had dug roman -WW2 stuff before I had ever dug a merc or a buffalo nickle so I still have a big wish list of US coins and relics I have to mark off .

I hit two homes and found my first barber quarter . The barber was the best for the day but I also dug a little brass bottle that says pat. applied for on the bottom.Pretty cool.SANY0682 [640x480].webpSANY0683 [640x480].webp
Today I had to go to work for an hour and then I hit a home built in 1950 thinking maybe I could score some late silver .Only a couple of hours spent and lots of clad and several wheats and then about an inch down turned on its edge there was a big silver! I thought yes,my first Franklin but when I look at it I knew it was a British coin because I had seen them dug on youtube.
No date but it look like an 1870s -1880s silver one florin. One side is badly worn but the other is pretty good. I assume it was brought back from WW1 or 2. You just never know what you will find. SANY0684 [640x480].webpSANY0687 [640x480].webpSANY0688 [640x480].webp

Nice silver though, no matter where its from. Congrats!

Looks like a George the fifth. Cool coin! From wikipedia:

George V (1910–1936)
The 1932 florin

Florins bearing his left-facing effigy were minted in each year of the reign of King George V (1910–1936) except 1910 and 1934. Whilst the weight and diameter of the coin were unchanged, the metal composition was changed in 1920 from 0.925 silver to 50% silver, 40% copper, 10% nickel, then again in 1922 to 50% silver, 50% copper, and again in 1927 to 50% silver, 40% copper, 5% nickel, 5% zinc. The design of the reverse was similar to Queen Victoria's Jubilee florin. Until 1926 the inscriptions on the obverse were GEORGIVS V D G BRITT OMN REX F D IND IMP and on the reverse were ONE FLORIN date, while from 1927 the obverse inscriptions were GEORGIVS V DEI GRA BRITT OMN REX and the reverse ones were FID DEF IND IMP date ONE FLORIN.

Good info Talon! It has a bust of a queen on it but it is pretty worn. Those dates would work with a WW2 bring back for sure.

More like a WWI Bring back - that is definitely Queen Victoria ! Very unusual find over here - Not a common coin at all !!! Great find !
Argentium.

you got some great finds! that bottle thing may be a cigarette lighter if it comes apart at the line near the center

Sweet silver !

Those silvers rock!
I would take that Florin any day. Nice finds!

(Funny, you see more finds here of Walkers than you do Franklins.)

Its what we call a 'Gothic Florin'. The date is on it, its in Roman Numerals (to the right of the head).

I can't even remember finding one of those over here!

CONGRATS

Good job Birdman! Big silver is always a thrill to find.

Great one! Funny how the bust is worn and the reverse is great on detail. And the lighter is cool too!

Hard to read but I think it is 1873 . I love getting surprised :headbang:
