Ok everyone I'm not a bottle guy I have always kept them and had a very basic knowledge of them but have been a relic and coin guy for 15 years. So I have some question I was talking to my buddy about the bottle I had just posted on the forum and he looked at me and said "oh bottles are worth money?" I said yes and his mouth dropped so he took me to a basement in his building that was built in 1830 and I'm sure there is about 2000 bottles all kinds sizes shapes I almost passed out. He gave me a few and after a quick look I'm sure every one of them dates prior to 1900 so what do I do? He wants to sell them. We don't know what they are worth or where to start. We are located in western NY I'm going to take pictures next week of all of them and post it.

Sounds like you are in for a "bottle experience" in the near future. Take photos and keep us updated.

Take some good photos of the ones you were given and post them here, so we might have some idea of what you have encountered...

Hey recon,

You've got some nice TOCish looking bottles there. Bottle values are generally increased for bottles that have embossing on their sides, or most of their paper labels, and it looks like you have a couple paper labels in the group. Color and condition are key factors.

The John Wyeth & Bro. malt extract and that other similarly shaped one are very common. Same, same on that British ale and the slick torpedo. $5-10, full tilt retail maybe.

There's a 1950's crown cap clear root beer bottle, just south of Tampa, in the group shot, next to a malt extract, and then what looks like a base embossed Hunyadi Janos Bitterquelle. While interesting and old looking, they're really "worth," maybe a dollar each, and a tough sale at that.

I see some aqua bottles with Lightning closures in the background. Who are those guys?

Great finds. Get every one you can. Yes you don't have any thing real high priced yet but the next ones might be much better. I would not turn down any of them. you have at least 40.00 worth and maybe more

Well I'm not giving up there is at least 2000 bottles in this room so 1 has to be the million dollar bottle

If you run into anything Illinois please let me know! Thanks!

Look for some with embossing and get some shots. You have a great starter collection there and they could be used later as trade bottles.
