Ok so I found this buckle at an old home site 11 inches in the ground hear in central Florida about a month ago. But I did not know what it was untill the other day while looking at some buckles that mudslideslim posted and there it was same buckle only I'm missing the CS tongue part. I never would have thought I could find a Civil War buckle hear in Florida but then again I am close to where Fort Dade was and Fort King Road. I have been back to try to find the other half but without any luck yet and I stress YET, I am being very optimistic. The other pics are of some othe relics found at the same site. The last pic is an example.

Congrats! Looks like quite an assortment of great relics to me!!

Great finds, thanks for sharing.

Yep that is the Wreath portion of a Tongue and Wreath buckle(they are my obsession!!!)There is a good chance the Tongue is there. The type of site I hunt the Tongues are often never found but there are various reasons for that that and only has to due with the type of site.Get looking!!!Thats the awesome thing about two peice buckles now the hunt begins!!!

Very cool what do you reckon that flower thing is

I think the flower thing is a cabinit door handle, and the badge is from Riverside military academy.

Holy ShiX!!!

Nice ;D

very very nice indeed

Very Cool Stuff!! Good Luck on finding the rest of that buckle.

Nice find! The design on the wreath is what you want to match up... keep searching the internet and see if you can find one that matches the design exactly. There were lots of designs and the two piece was used the US, CSA and state militias.

Maybe you can go back and look around the area you found it in and look around some more. Maybe it's close by ;D

Sounds like a very awesome hunt! Nice job on finding that buckel!

Good for you!!! I live in a civil war rich area and have never found a civil war buckle :-[ If I was you I would be back there looking for the other half.

Nice buckle and nice relics, keep looking for that tongue you never know, being that deep the other half could have been laying right beside or a couple of inches deeper!

That is just an awesome find, Newnan! 8) I see several awsome finds in those pictures!!! Do you think that flower thing could be half of a belt buckle? I found this..look and see what you think..

Congrats on all those finds and good luck finding the other half!!! Nana

Thanks NANA my buddy found one similar the other day thats why I asked

I believe your right nana, it does have a place on the back that would seem to be used for a buckle just like in the link pic you posted!

Yep. Nana nailed it. Two piece Victorian buckle there.

Now as for the wreath buckle...

In battlesites, camps, or just about ANY other place, you'd have little to no chance of locating the other half of your buckle...BUT at a house site you have great odds. If there is a trash pit there, or filled in cellar hole, you should dig them out (if you can--and if the property owner OK's it). My last sword belt plate is the ONLY one I have ever found a keeper for...and it was found at a house site a week and a half ago (See the Banner for more details).

Keep searching. As I said before, you've got good odds.

Regards,

Buckleboy

Really cool finds! I really like the badge
