Holy smokes! A cob!!!

I went to my old haunt; the Colonial Beach, for a little bit this morning with a friend. This place has been hit by other people, so targets are not as plentiful as they used to be. This was actually the first target I dug, and when I saw it, I thought it was a numbered pewter regiment button. Boy was I wrong! (Not that I wouldn't do the happy dance for a nice rev war button). I know it's a cob, but I have no idea what the original coin was. By the size of the letter, I'd say 8 reales. I figure if anyone knows, you guys will! I'm stoked!!!!

Nice find. My guess would be an early 1700s(Philip V) 1/2 real cob with the V that is clearly visible on it. The late 1600s(Charles II) 1/2 real cob monogram that I have looks quite different

Makes sense I nearly stated late 17th-early 18th, as I've seen some similar ones circa 1714, but I knew at some point someone would get the full attribution, which should be possible.

Nice cob. Most Phillip V cobs I have seen show PvS. Yours looks to have the entire v inside the P. Not sure yours is a Phillip V, maybe an earlier Phillip.

I agree with you on both counts. I looked at numerous Phillip V half reale cobs, but for the life of me, I cant find one with the V beside the cross or inside the P. Maybe it will remain a mystery lol

I found a few images online of cobs with a v inside of a D. According to this, yours could be a Potosi Ferdinand VI 1747-60.

Yes I think you're right. I was hoping it was older, but that's ok. It's still a cob and a super rare find in Canada. Lol

The date would be under the initials; unfortunately, not shown on this coin but certainly within the range given by 'bonepicker'.
BTW, it's 91.7 % silver.
