"Hooked" on this Hobby, 1947 Wheatie Today
Was able to get out for about 2 hours this morning. Was having Thanksgiving at my moms today since she is traveling to see my sister in Arkansas for Turkey Day. Went to a local elementary school and hunted in the pea gravel (our local school system doesn't use wood chips) and got a 1947D Wheatie - first one in awhile. This one was with 7 memorials in a coin drop. It's in pretty nice shape. Gotta wonder if a kid got into their parents coin collection. That's all that came out of there, so I went to a local lake and hunted around a dried up portion of it. Nothing but a double hook and the knob for a fishing reel (and loads of foil hits). Then went over to the elementary school I went to as a child. The field where we used to have recess and our annual carnival is now a soccer field. Hunted a 10' by 100' section where a lot of the rides were set up for the carnival each year (this was in the 70's). In one 10' section, I found all of the dimes from todays "catch". They must still do something in that same area, because these coins were mostly post 1990. I'll save the rest for next spring. I've attached a photo of what area on the grounds I've covered.
Everyone have a Happy Turkey Day if I don't check in before then. I'm making marshmallows for my father inlaw tonight, then we are traveling there (eastern Iowa) on Wednesday. Have to put in some long days at work to cut down on my PTO time that I take.
