I have been on a real lucky streak about gaining permission to hunt some old sites, I hunted a one room school the other day and had a ball with a Barber half as the big find of the day. While hunting that site I met a lady who was the historian for a local church and she told me that the church had been built in the early 1840's and where all the old structures had stood. She was kind enough to get me permission to detect the church grounds so I headed out Friday night after work. I decided to start in the area where she told me the parrishners would tie their horses up and that there had been an outbuilding there in years past, I figuired that this was a good starting point as maybe other people had detected this old church before but did not have this info available to them and maybe had overlooked this spot.I had just started to hunt , for maybe 15 minutes when I recieved a call from a buddy who needed my help, so I decided to come back in the morning when I had a little more time. As I started to leave I got a hard penny signal so I thought one more could'nt hurt and I ended up pulling this very nice 1867 Indian head out of about 10 inches. The following morning I arrived bright and early and decided to continue the grid I had started the night before and on my fourth pass I got a hard but deep dime signal on my X-Terra 70. After major excavation I sweept my pile of diggings and pulled the same signal again so with the pinpointer I pulled this tiny piece of silver out and thought at first it maybe a 3 cent piece. I took it to my truck and started pouring water on it and man was I surprised to see the lady in the chair! :o I was so excited I just jumped in the truck and came home. I'll go back later today when my nerves calm down lol

Nice Digs...Go Back, more treasure awaits. Congrats on your finds...HH

OK I don't wanna sound totally in the dark.....but what was ur cleaning method. They didn't come out of the ground like that I don't think. All I find look like sh&* and I am afraid to do too much cleaning. Educate me! LOL

The half dime is untouched except for soap and water and a very soft tooth brush! the Indian head is the same, but if i have a rough lookin copper coin I give it a 5 minute per side bath in boiling peroxide then soap and water. Heat the peroxide in microwave for 20 seconds and that should help you Swingin ;D

Thanks so much to all of you for the kind words and the encouragement. I also thank you for the banner nominations, I consider it a real honor to have my fellow MD'ers nominate my find. I also want to thank all the memebers of T-net as without your guidence and patients to share your vast knowledge with me I would never have made this find, its as much everyone's as it is mine. I have new and better pics coming in a day or two so come back and take a look again as the ones I posted I took with a web cam and do this gorgeous coin no justice :-[

Hey SlipperyJack, that is a couple of awesome finds you have there. Man, those half-dimes are sure small. I've yet to dig one of those. Our sites around here aren't old enough to hold that type of coin. :'(

Congrats to You!!
