There is a particular name for the maze-like design surrounding that gladiator piece, but for the life of me, I can't remember what it is called...it sure would make a search easier .... darn it! It's hell getting old!

Obviously it's a printing plate of some kind as the word "Feed" is in reverse but it is a bag of feed at the bottom of the image below the cow. My guess is an advertisement printing plate. Invert the image. Very cool! The other one I have no clue.

I couldn't tell if it said "FEED" or "PEED" ... obviously on a feed-sack though. I finally decided that it looked like the loop was connected.

Thanks guys... The more i look at it i think it says "leed"

I think it's "FEED" because if you look at the middle horizontal line part of the letter "E" you can see the font they used is fatter than the top horizontal line, this same exact feature occurs in the letter "F". If you overlook this and turn the cow completely upside down, it might look like "LEED". Also since it's written on a sack of feed, it makes more sense. ;-) Just my observations with an iPad in my hand!

The info from Creskol is pretty amazing about the "Peed Family Letters"!! It was found in King George,Virginia the next county over from Stafford. About 5 miles from where the Peed Family farm was!! which was in KG along the Potomac River. The red part I highlighted is where it is all chipped out and the blue part is where i think I see a "eed" I really wish this had something to with the Peed family and if this is saying "feed" or "leed" or if there is a chance it could say "peed" but i guess it is "feed"? The property it was found on did not belong to the Peed's but the house site would have been the same time period as when the Peeds were there and basically a close neighbor...

For sure. I am going to search some advertisements of old newspapers from historical newspaper sites of the area. Already looked at Fredericksburg 1836 - 1912. Hoping to stumble upon the image in an advertisement. I found one of these plates before and it was for a bitters advertisement, it is very cool to find one of these old plates.

I would be curious to learn what it says in the upper right-hand corner?
