Welcome to my pity party :occasion18:. I hate :censored: that we here in Montana can't do much detecting for at least 4 months and who knows :dontknow: this year it may be longer as early December has set records so far as this cold this early. Hard to go from metal detecting 3 or 4 times a week to sitting here on the computer lurking on the treasure forums. I know I should have a life other than metal detecting and I did before I got my detector but now I am addicted there is nothing else to compare. Just try to think of places to detect next year and with my memory I better write them down before I forget them.
Love Montana but not so much the weather.

Thanks for listening to my rant on the weather.

Start hitting each of the 32 microbreweries where you can sample great beer!

I'd say now is the time for research. Good hard library, documents, maps… finding the old trails and ghost towns, encampments. Then put together a detailed plan for when the ground melts. Winter is the time to go meet the people who own the land, and get permission ahead of time.

What a great time to get all the non-digging necessary work done so you can maximize the hunt.

I'd also look at where I could find places to do a little gold panning or gem hunting next summer. Memorize all the different gem rocks you might find so when your swinging a coil, you might just see a rock.

On the weather- I'm picking up what you're laying down… we are hitting some records here as well.

Listen to G.I.B. and remember, it's a bit messy, but mud season starts in March...

If you need a fix try a sled hill or ice skating spot for recent drops. Not real productive but cures the itch.

You should join the ring finders - Only 2 members in Montana. I'm in Minnesota and we can't hunt up here for almost 5 months in the winter. I always get a few calls for people losing their rings while shoveling snow, snowball fights, cleaning off their cars, sledding etc. Keep me atleast partially satisfied in the winter.

Good Luck to ya!

I do belong to lostmystuff.net . com but guess it wouldn't hurt to join the Ring Finders either. I know there is very little activity in my area as far as the Lost My Stuff site goes. The population is just so spread out here. Thanks for the replies.
