How many use headphones?

Hey Scotto,

Whatever you do don't tell these guys where your 'hunted out' spots are. It'll look like McArthur's returning army, all wearing headphones, listening for the faint ones.

Got the Rattler headphone in yesterday. Took this afternoon off to try them. Fantastic! I actually got to hunt a park that is not in the best part of town. No problem with anyone walking up on me (the Rattler has only one ear piece). They outdid the Audio 200 from Kellyco by 100%. I actually had much clearer sound even with the traffic and nature sounds in the other ear.

I'm going to order a pair of Gray Ghost or Black Widow 'phones. This is the best thing since sliced bread.

Good to hear (n'yuk, n'yuk). I can HIGHLY recommend the Black Widows. It's like being in a hearing test booth. They let you focus on the tinyest sounds or lapses in the threshold that signal deep "iffies".. My Musky is a silent searcher, but the trash will give little clicks or puckers on either side of the "beep" so I can guesstimate the better signals. But I do intend to add a set of Rattlers now. I've had folks scare the snot out of me by suddenly appearing when I was "zoned". Bad enough in a park, but when it happens in the woods in a cellar hole it can freak you out big time!

ALWAYS! I have extra sets.
You can hear the 'whispers' better. You don't annoy others around you. It extends battery life considerably. And in winter it keeps your ears warm! :)

Definately use phones. Apparently the battery life when using them is extended, which is always a good thing ;).
As other people also said, I don't like attracting attention with the beeps etc when out in public.

Always use head phones.Once I forgot them at the house,I drove all the way back home 30 minutes away.Once your used to them, hard to do without!

Can anyone recommend a somewhat cheaper set of headphones for my XLT. My machine is a little older. I was going to purchase a new one but this one was my mothers so when she passed i took it. I hate to replace it because i have had such good luck with it. I would say that is is every bit of 9 years old. Not sure when the XLT came out. But i see so many types of headphones out there i dont want to purchase the wrong ones.

I researched headphones for a while and decided on the grey ghost and have enjoyed them emensley. I don't and wouldn't hunt without them. They fit completly over the ears, not too tight, block out ambient noise like tractores, trucks, ocean waves etc. Kepps ears warm and makes em sweat in the summer but worth it. If you plan to hunt several hours at a time, spend the extra for somthing comfortable. Even the Grey ghost get a little uncomfy after about 4-5 hours continuous. It has a long cord so you can lay the detector down and staqnd up if needed, the cord is coiled, it has on off switch at the headset and volume control. I think i paid about 99.00 or 129.00, not sure, from sunray products I believe. just my opinion.

I will add that I used the Koss headphones that came with the explorer and much prefer the Grey Ghost but those are the only ones I have tried. Can't speak good or bad for the other brands.

Look into Calrad 15-135B. Independent adjustable volume, nice big padded cups, and a three foot coiled cord that stays out of your way. Well built, too.

Thanks for the prompt response. And sorry i hijacked the original post. I just did not want to clutter the board with similar topics.

The question shoulld be.....

I always use them , well at least 99% of the time. the only time I don't use then is when I take my parrot with me, he hate them an would just chem them up anyway. Also he gets excited when he hear a good signal :D. he on my shoulder in this pic. he bleands in pretty good with the sweatshirt. I go by the sound of a target more than by the # show by the machine most times

As someone who has been bit by a male eclectus I can tell you....you are safe from anyone wanting to steal any treasures you are digging up. ;D

Anyone gives you trouble you just aim that bird right at them.
