How many use headphones?

(FYI, no whisper and the fact the 6x9 coil is really like a 4x6 sniper is the reason I don't like my ACE 250 and I am considering selling it)

If you're serious send me a pm.

Always. I use a Musketeer Advantage and it has no visual display. I need to hear all the little murmers and mumbles for the deep stuff, and the "squeeks" and "squawks" and consonant sounds that reveal possible trash. I have a pair of Black Widows that are a great help. I've been thinking about a Sidewinder (only one earphone) as I have had people come up and scare the crap out of me when I get "zoned" and am concentrating on detecting. They block out almost all outside noise.

Yes, always headphones, if I'm not out wiht my father as like "likes" to dig... :D

I always use my head phones. It blocks out the noise and helps me hear the faint signals. I got a pair when I bought my detector. I would not detect without them.

Use them all the time but to get the best results need three pairs. No one pair suits all machines.
Re the 250. Its a question of modulation. Top of range machines give you the choice of selecting to have modulation on or off. So you have the choice of hearing whispers or in effect having a boost that amplifies everything to a high volume.
Whispers are better if you have good headphones and pay attention. Also the target volume indicates depth.
The Garrett design employs the boost at all times which is easier for beginners and the meter provides the user with a depth reading.

My first detector was an underwater machine and I had to use the headphones... Now I always use them, regardless. However, I don't use the typical "earmuff" style headphone. I prefer the small earbud style. I bought the 3.5mm to 5mm? jack at radioshack, and use my sony, amplified, noise cancelling earbuds, They are far more comfortable, lighter, and I can still wear a hat without interference. lol

Always wear the phones. First, you'll hear things you wouldn't hear with just the speakers, and second, if you're on the beach, you won't be annoying other people with the noise, or have a group of kids following you begging to see every little think you find. Although... they never seem to get tired of seeing another pulltab...

I guess I'm going to fly in the face of public opinion here; I tried mine once, and they were such a nuisance that I never used them again. They actually came with my XLT, so they were intended for the machine; they just didn't hit it with me. Hard to say what I may have missed not using them :-\

Don't leave home without them.Keep's people from bugging you and let's you hear the target's more clearly........rh

I won't hunt at all with out them. You will miss alot. Besides when I get a pesty kid or 2 following me I make like I'm deaf . ::)

I just picked up a set of Koss KCS75 behind the ear phones today. These have no headband, cover the ear and have great sound and a lifetime warranty. I love them after 2 hours of use today. Picked them up at Radio Shack.

I forgot to add. The Koss KCS 75 have a volume control.

I started out not using headphones. Found an old set in my dad's basement from my teen age years. I figured I'd try them for all the reasons posted above. Would never go without them now.

I'd think they would be cumberson....

I am a hat wearer, and I find the right set of headphones keeps my hat on in wind. They need to fit good, tight but not too tight and must be comfortable. I like the Whites standard set maroon color with dual volume controlls. The coiled cord is perfect for me when I set down the detector to dig so it does not pull on the headphones. Bottom line is get a pair you like, that fit, and use them. They will make you a better TH,er. They do not appear combersome to me. The only problem I have is in the coldest part of winter when I try to use them under a hood, they are a little bigand pull occasionally. I would rather this than a -5 Deg. F. wind chill on my poor little head! Ha! Ha!

Bought a new set of head phones this weekend, now ready to filter out the excess noises except from the MD.

Got to go out yesterday to use my new Koss KW-Pro's. They sound great and are very comfortable. Pick-up even the slightest whisper.

Get some. You'll hear signals you've been missing. You won't annoy people around you. You won't call attention to yourself. AND you'll get MUCH more out of your batteries - it takes a lot of energy to drive the speaker. And it's a good idea to have one or two spares, plus adapters you might need.

This is for the ace250 users out there.... Get some headphones so you don't annoy those around you, haha.

You can hear that machine from a mile away.

Haha, my girlfriend was watching me type this and agreed with me 100%.... but I think she thinks the whole idea of metal detecting in general is annoying... so what does she know? haha :)

I use them religiously.Don't like people staring.Don't want them to know what's going on either! :)

I don't mean to be mean but.....If you want that list of finds to grow a little faster I'd get some phones and join the club.
