how often do you find a larger sized point (bigger then 2 inches) in a plowed field? i seem to find lots of broken tips and some birdpoints but i havnt found a large arrowhead i got another birdpoint today maybe 1.3 inches

I've found larger points in plows fields before now in NC. You can expect to find a lot more brokes though, they get distroyed by the plow, the smaller points slip through. Its just one of those things. Sure you'll find some, just keep looking.
I also found the run offs productive..Oh & try looking on the grass verges, sometimes the plow throws them onto the verge around the field.

Finding large point's in plowed ground is not real easy they tend to get broken up by farm equipment. I have quite a few pieces of broken large point's and knives, base's, middle sections and tip's but I have yet to find a larger point or knife in plowed ground.

Theses have all been found in plowed fields in the past few years and all are over 2 inches long with everything except the Thebes being well over 3 inches long. The 2 Flint Chisels are both almost 4 inches long. All of these however came from very sandy fields which helps to keep the points from breaking quite so easily when the plows gets them.

But you can still find a few large pieces on Woodland and Mississippian sites. The Bi-Pointed Knife is from a Woodland Village site I hunt which is predominently Hopewell and the two Chisels are from a Ft Ancient site I hunt. The points may not be big, but some of the Tools and Knives are.

Found this 3 inch in a plowed field not long ago, but your right they are fewer and further between nowadays but they're still out there, I've found several 4 inch waubesas and dicksons in the past couple of years in plowed fields. but my best bet for the big points are in the logging clearcuts. Man I love those places !

Anything over 3 '' is large around here. My best chance is to find them in waterways. Later Mississipian burial items can be very large here to a single 24' blade or maybe 20 tiny Guntersville points. Sometime when they build highways they will disperse items like these.
So for here not very often.

Targe is right - lots of sites produce points over 3" even today in fields, others never had any, never will. I post this picture as often as possible but it's from this year, over 3" and in a plowed field. Needle tip, long ears and not so much as a scratch on it. I've found several over 4" and nice tools, hoes, etc over 6".

hell its hard enough to find them, let alone in a plowed field.i leave the plowed fields alone until i run out of beach or creeks to walk.
