WWII is a good approximation, but maybe earlier. There should be a makers mark on the back, stamped into it (Boyt? Sears?) and it looks to be in good enough condition that I would think they should be legible.
Could you show a picture of the back?

It's for a Colt M1911 .45 caliber auto. They were in use from sometime shortly after 1911 (probably 1917-1918 ) up to the time they switched to Browning 9mm, probably around the 1980's. They came in brown and in black.
