This is 1894 O dime in good shape other than the discoloration could it be polished out?? I'd like to get its color back and it doesent seem to be pitted
Cant see how I have Killed the value any, I did use baking soda And Do Not recommend this on a High Dollar coin. But though this is Key date, it is not a 1000 dollar coin and could have never been in this dug condition. RUINED? I Think Not, Dimminished value? I think not, Any More Valuable? i think not
Is it prettier in my colletion A def. Yes
Cleaning coins....especially valueable coins, is a big no no. It's not about what you can see with the naked eye. Its about what you can see under extreme magnification. If you have no plans to sell it then fine. Otherwise cleaning a coin will certainly de-value it.
If you aren't worried about the value use some silver polish, works really well but you are effectively taking the surface layer off the coin. A dealer will see the abrasive marks (which aren't really visible to the naked eye if you go easy) and your coin will have no value.
If it's just for your collection and you like shiny coins for your personal enjoyment, I say "Go for it mate"
That discoloration looks like only some calcium buildup. Dilute your favorite
calcium remover (Do not use full strength) in a plastic cap and have several
Q-tips handy. Gently go round & round with wet Q-tip till calcium dissapears.
Wash several times w/distilled water and air dry holding with clean fingers close
to light bulb.
