How you defend yourself?

I want to keep loaded weapons in the home, but with two young kids it's almost unthinkable. So, I have to keep everything locked up and not easily accessible.

My first choice in home defense is a 12guage with 8 rounds of #4 buck shot..........heck, this is what I take if I need check something outside at night also as a primary weapon.......never underestimate a shotgun.....they are devastating........
And if bad guys did not come seeking trouble, then there would be no gun problems anywhere......it is not the guns, it is not good and honest people; it is criminals and evil people who seek you out.
First choice for me is also a .12 ga. BUT with no.6 birdshot. With the close ranges that come from across a room, birdshot is just as deadly as the #4 buck yet will not penetrate most walls. Wall penetration can be deadly for other members of the family! TTC

In England the cops don't have guns and the bad guys don't have guns so its HALtT .......... Or I'll say halt again! Robin Williams 1987

By looking at my avatar I bet you would never guess my stance. Short sweet and simple. The areas of our nation with the strictest gun laws have the highest crime. Before you try to argue they were banned because of crime look at the actual statistics. As laws become stricter crime increases. Such laws make the law abiding prey to the criminals who have no intention of obeying laws. When many states enacted carry permit laws making it legal for law abiding citizens with no criminal record to carry, crime decreased noticeably. These are facts. I have a legal and god given right to protect myself and family. Pass any law you want, I will own and have access to guns.

How do I defend me and mine? To many calibers and combinations to state... But I can promise this- break into my crib when I'm here and this is what you'll see --> After the first shot and just before the second!
PEACE

I couldn't sleep without a dog in my house they are a very important step toward home security .and don't laugh at my beagle he doesn't miss a trick he wakes me and my lab/chow .

1more4me, ....... we had a guy in our recent handgun carry class telling another that a good ole single action like you are displaying in your pic was not sufficient for protection. Where do they come up with such crap. The good ole single has put a many a man in the ground. In a true gun fight you may be at a disadvantage, but in my own home the game plan is to let them come to me and end it on my playground. Big mistake made by many is to go hunting after they hear what they believe to be an intruder. That is a big "NOPE". Go to a predetermined place that has cover and offers "the clear shot" and let them come to you. Again, statistics speak for themselves.

TNGUNS- Crap it is! They have likely never been just a few yards the wrong side of a 44 when it goes off in a dark enclosed space! I can point and shoot about as well as most people aim- but regardless of that- the boom, shock, and flash even if it is a miss- will likely change the intention of any criminal out there... I agree with your plan to pick cover and protect. However, I got kids spread across 4 corners of the house- so I have to hunt. BTW- I like your avatar- tried to count how many your clip holds... Several thousand round drum apparently...

If your 44 misses, the vacuum it produces well suck them right through the vortex of a hole you just created anyway. That's my story and I'm sticking to it!!

The last time i checked, black powder guns are not classified as firearms under federal law. So i guess you could legally carry one anyplace.

1more4me, I understand what ya mean on the no choice hunting them. Used to be the case here. On the 44........ it is hilarious when a person shows up with one at the handgun carry class. Only happened a few times in several years of my working there. Seems like the last year or two the VAST majority of people getting permits are not the hardcore gun folks and hunters. Most of them jumped on the band wagon for that long ago. More housewifes and often people who have had an experience that woke them up to the fact they need one. ...... anyway, we start at close range firing on shot on command. Every round from the 44 requires that we have to assure the shooters on each side that they are ok and noting is wrong. It unfortunately does make it hard for the shooters around it to concentrate on their shooting waiting for the muzzle blast. We had a guy with a 4 inch 29 and we had him shoot then the others on the single rounders. On the shoot at will, they just had to just grin and bear it.:laughing7:

Don't like guns. Might shoot myself accidentally. I prefer a nicely sharpened number 2 pencil. Legal to carry anywhere. When used to defend yourself can cause much harm. Also great to have for taking notes and sketching.

What way you are using now for the security of your home and business places in an area where the guns are totally banned.Because there is not a best alternate for the security of home and business other than a gun.

Dear friends, I hope you all understand that every word you write here is available to be used in court against you in the unfortunate event that you end up there. Hopefully you will never be placed in that situation.

97th st. Milwaukee, WI, Man enters the rear door of a dwelling that has double cylinder dead bolt. He breaks the glass and begins crawling in. The owner is standing on the upper steps and cocks his .44 MAG pistol. The intruder hears and sees the hell he has entered.... he says, "Oops, wrong house." BAM! The owner hits the intruder in the right shoulder. The arm must be amputated. Incident number on file for those interested... Milwaukee Police Dept late '70s. (no charges filed on land owner) TTC

Saying you will defend your families lives and your home is a valid response.. We all have the right to defend ourselves.

I live in a stand your ground state as well...

When seconds count, the police are only minutes away!
The national average response time for police after receiving a 911 call is 22 minutes.

The average response time of a .357 magnum is 1800 FPS.

Any questions?

What state do you live in ,where guns are banned?

Pj I have to ask since apparently your wife is your weapon of choice, do you do as she says without question without a huff or puff because your wife does not sound like a woman to be trifled with at all. My wife jokingly says im her Rottweiler and don't make me let him off leash. Guys I see all of is here hold our rights close and be damned if anyone will take that away, I hope you remember this come voting time because the jack As and the head A in the Whitehouse in charge will take it all away, makes for easier targets.

Get your facts first, then distort them as you please-Mark Twain
