Pennies, pennies, pennies, pennies, pennies, dime. Penny, penny.... Quarter. penny.. penny.. penny.. I haven't found anything silver in my last 8-10 outings, even when going back to some spots that have given up some shiny silver treasures. Am I 'normal' :) by getting a little disappointed and discouraged?

Has anyone else thought 'is this really worth all this work?' when having a normal clad day?

Yes you are normal............I planned a big outing a few weeks ago and was really excited about it. Got out there and found "1" nickle!

not silver, just a plain 1995 era nickle.

I'd say you're running about normal. Silver is becoming fewer and farther between all the time. At least pennies, and other clad are better than pulltabs etc. If you're really concerned about whether or not it's worth the work, maybe it's not the hobby for you? I'm still motivated by wanting to know what caused the beep whether it's junk or treasure. Hang in there you never know what's coming up next.

Sometimes this is how it goes. You can't think of this as work as you know that you'd make more money working at a fast food place. This is just a hobby that sometimes grants us a really nice goodie. Knowledge, skill and the best equipement you can afford help, but it all comes down to it must be fun or why do it.............

Oh no, it's definitely the hobby for me. I've been into it since 1987 so despite my 'tenderfoot' rating (or whatever it is in the forum here) I reckon (not to be tooting my own horn) I probably have more experience that a lot of ya's. :) (I don't mean that in a bad way). I'm just wondering if the 'oldsters' get disappointed too. And ya gotta admit, it CAN be work if you're just diggin' pennies all day.

Any suggestions on reliable VDI machines where you can completely ignore all of em? Cooper and zinc? I mean, it's nice to pull up a wheat every now and then and I don't dig the zincs now but I'd forgo all pennies if I could if I was reasonably certain it was a penny. After all, I'm knockin' nickels and gold by eliminating tabs (not always, it depends on the site) so pennies could go bye bye too.

Well on my X-Terra 70 you can notch out pennies if you want to. I actually have a pattern set up for just that. When I am time restrained or just do not want to dig pennies I go to this pattern. I actually could notch out Nickles and dimes also, and just dig quarters.

Now I am a NEWB only started hunting in 08/07. I tend to not do the notching much, as i am worried about missing something good.

If I didn't dig the zinc penny hits, then I wouldn't find gold either...........and I like finding gold. :icon_king:

And the copper penny hits may be an Indian Head. Gotta dig'em. MXT tells me pretty accurately which is zinc and which is copper/dime. If I pass up the copper/dime, I wouldn't have pulled 13 dimes today. My problem is I can't find gold, and only two silver rosies so far. I'm sure it's there, just not swinging over it yet.

well yeah! we is all normal critters! following a frisbie on a stick. that reminds me of the rottwheiler that thought my coil was a frisbie and wanted it. he drove me nuts. short trip. how do you spell that dog?

Several people enjoy finding clad...and take whatever else comes along... If you are in a town with millions of people like me....clad adds up fast... In you are in older areas with large fields and open areas... I would think older coins... I am on a new dry spell...but I am racking up the clad which I make pay for all my equipment.... We all have different ways of enjoying the hobby... Good luck! :icon_sunny:

dry spells bite... but the game wouldn't be as fun if ya hit them all the time...
but then, you already know that..... ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

If you expect to profit from a hobby get a part time job at a fast food joint.
Lot's of folks get lucky in our hobby....some get real lucky...they research and they dig every beep.
Take your time and enjoy the hobby.Relax....

yeppers....pennies, pennies, pennies.....lining my kitchen window sill with em...if i ever bother to wash em off.

I'd rather dig pennies than nothing at all. I've hit the same old parks so many times they just produce less and less goodies and more and more clad...but mostly pennies.

Guys at work laugh at me. They toss them like they're junk, leave them lay when changing....
I just pick em up and tell them.."You know, I bought a thousand dollar detector to find these"...they get a good laugh.

But it's still the thrill of detecting, no matter what I find...and knowing....there's at least one more silver coin in that park I've hit 50 times.
