Got out for a few hours today with my hunting buddy Steve (SteveJG on Tnet). We hit a new colonial spot that we had our eye on. It's not a very large site. Just one foundation and a little huntable land around it. Judging by the finds made here I would date it to around the mid to late 1700's. Here are a couple pictures of the foundation.

I decided to focus my hunting around the perimeter of the foundation. Steve climbed right into the foundation and started hunting. I won't tell you what he found but lets just say he had the better day today. ;D :o The only good finds I was able to come up with at this site were a large flat colonial button and a crotal bell (broken of course.).
After a couple of hours we changed locations and went to the site where I found the large copper with no detail and the 2 flat buttons on Sunday. I did OK here but not great. Two more flat buttons found their way into my apron. Other than the three clad quarters I picked up in the front yard and a few spoon pieces, that about sums up my day. I know...not very much right? Thats OK. Steve made up for it. Keep your eyes peeled for his post.

Thanks for looking.......

That is an impressive foundation wall. I always feel really connected with the past when I hunt places such as that. Those flat buttons and the crotal bell are nice relics!!

Thanks Sentinel. Its really amazing when you think back to the days when someone was actually living in that thing. I really like the history behind this hobby.

That looks like an awesome foundation! I can't wait to see the finds that are waiting to be uncovered and posted on here by you guys! Have a good time hunting that place! ;D

Any day I find flat buttons is a good day. Old coins are a bonus! Yesterday I hit 6 buttons, and only one old copper. Looks like a good spot with more coins hiding. Did you try the area near the road in the picture?

A place like that i would dig all signals lol. Ya never know what the iron is masking. Nice finds!

We got out near the road a couple of times but we didn't cover the area anywhere near completely. I'm sure there is alot more there to be found. Most of the good finds were much closer to the foundation.

Did you add those quarters to your clad count? :P

What is clad again? I forgot. :laughing7: :laughing7: My total this year is 5 clad quarters, 2 memorial pennies, 1 clad dime.

THAT SITE LOOKS LIKE IT HAS MORE TO OFFER YOU . WHERE PEOPLE LIVED,
THEY ALWAYS LEAVE BEHIND TRASH. LOOK FOR A DUMP (BOTTLES) ETC...

Great post Evo. The pic of the foundation is neat. I don't have anything like that around here.

Dang it!  You've got me beat!  LOL  I think I spent all my good fortune early this year with those Spanish Silvers here in KY and all I can get now is wheats  :tard:  Bad news for me is that the brush is growing here--so I have to get back to yards again (and you know what that means...)  :tard: :tard:  It means I won't be so Clad to see those coins coming up.  :D

You're only behind me by four CLAD though--there's still lots of time in '08 to catch up :laughing7:

Regards,

What sucks is when you're at a site that has produced nice colonial finds and you get that nice quarter signal.....which means large cent sometimes at these kinds of sites.....and the clad qwatters keep turning up. :-\ :'( Better than nothin I guess.

Thanks for the response Kyle. We have been pretty fortunate with the sites we've been hunting. Steve definitely had a good day. His post should be up soon.
