Hunted my family's homestead!!

Several weeks ago I found the original home built by my ancestors in Northampton County, Pa. It was built by my GGGGGG grandfather. I asked for permission to detect and was told that the property was full of trash when they purchased it from someone in my family 25 years ago. It has been detected before as well. My finds weren't all that fabulous but my friend Lisa found a 1772 Reale!! I was so excited to find this 1888 IH and then I look up and see Lisa with a S**t eaten grin on her face. Nearby she found her Reale. She is giving me all of her finds as she feels they are rightfully mine. I'm thrilled to have this stuff that was from my family.

Besides the Indian head the only other interesting things I found in about 6 hours were this harmonica and the top of an oil lantern. Anyone have an idea of age??? Also a copper ring that looks to be the size of a childs bracelet??

That is SO cool that you get to detect there!! Congrats to you and Lisa on those finds! Wouldn't it be awesome to find a relic with their names or initials on it?
Good luck on your return. :icon_thumright:

Re: Hunted my family's homestead!!

I can not visit the home of my ancestors (found in a small village in my country of only 200 inhabitants and is in ruins), because I get to with sadness. :-\
It is an honor to their ancestors using coins in my country

That is a nice site. Really neat to hunt something like that with the history. Pa has got alot of old areas.

Nice of your friend to give up that spanish silver.

Very nice finds! :icon_thumright:
It must have been such a thrill for you to hunt your ancestors property! :notworthy:
I can at least help you identify the oil lamp burner screen you found. ;D

This type of burner was called a Pinafore Burner and was patented March 30, 1880.
The Pinafore Burner's were made by Leader & H. B. & H (Holmes, Booth & Haydens), and used a molded blown glass oval chimney. The chimney was held in place on the burner screen by a single set screw.

and theres only more waiting to be found.

Re: Hunted my family's homestead!!

Nice Fibnds Debby!!! You ladies had a good day. Your finds are special because your ancestors used that lamp to see and study by. You should be proud as a lot of people today have no idea about their forefathers and where they lived HH, Quindy.

Re: Hunted my family's homestead!!

Nice color on that IH, very cool!

Re: Hunted my family's homestead!!

can't wait to see that reale

Re: Hunted my family's homestead!!

How exciting ! To hunt for your own families relics . I would have to go to Quebec city to do that . My GGGGG Grandfather settled there in 1630 ! Nice Indianhead , I think a special display is in order ! Especially with that half reale on the way  MaineRelic

Re: Hunted my family's homestead!!

Yes, nice pics. Good friend, that is nice of her.
I only recovered one coin today too.

Re: Hunted my family's homestead!!

Haunting site to see what centuries can do to a stone built dwelling . All that stands is a chimney and rubble . I am glad you have a chance to salvage some great lost items linked to your family . 1630 Wow :o , they must have come over with Willy Penn ! Great pics 8) dawg
