Nice silver trooper. I think the lead thing is a clothes weight for a skirt maybe???

Hey trooper, that is a sweet old dime. It looks well used. ;D

great find storm ! man that thing was deep congrats to you ! ;)

Storm,
Congrats on the silver coin. That's an old sucker! Great pictures too.

WTG Storm, never seen one of those.

what you found is a skirt (hem) weight (1800's-early 1900's). its a fairly common find for that era. nice going!

Yeah it is a skirt weight or for a long coat of sorts to help keep the wind from blowing it open. They were sewn into the hem at the bottom I think. Nice silver and congrats on the oldest silver.

Nice Job. Congratulations once again.

Nice dime Stormtrooper! Looks like your getting the hang of it now! I bet the deep older coins keep comin now! Congrats and happy hunting.

That is an awesome find, Storm! Maybe that Explorer is a silver machine.

I would be careful in rubbing your wilver coins though. That degrades the value of the coin, dude.

HH!

Yeah, I wasnt going to until I saw I knicked it with the digging tool. Once I saw that, I had to see what I ruined LOL

Do some deep seeking around the base and roots of fat old trees in the last photo, trees can hide some pretty cool stuff. congrats on the coin, the other item I believe is either an old shower curtain weight or hem weight of some sort, I have dug several of those of different sizes, the one being the size of a quarter. good luck on your Mding. :D

Congrats on the silver! I like the hemd weight as well. The bases of those trees in the background are huge. HH, Mike

Great finds,, pity we always learn the hard way of digging using silver or gold coins... why not copper ???
The photographs are really great.... Is that a special tripod for the detectors or something you made?

God bless
Peter

Nice finds, love the silver. Don't sweat that you dinged it - occupational hazard but I'm investing in a pinpointer to minimise the chance all the same.

Nice dime, don't worry about the nick; just be glad it wasn't in better shape! ;D I've given more scratches than I care to think about.

It does looked field cleaned. I have been guilty of that many times. I have learned in my old age wait till you get home! Also I have a water bottle I keep with me when hunting with a large opening. I keep it half full and that lets me drop a coin in it and swash it around and that will get most of the dirt off of it so I can at least see the date. I know how hard it is to keep yourself from rubbing on it just from the excitement of seeing silver come out of the ground but if you recover it and then scratch it up cleaning it in the field you will kill the value and the looks of it. I see this happen everyday on here. Im not getting on you just friendly advice. Like I said I have done it myself. I learned not to do it after becoming a member of Tnet and someone gave me this same advice. Also it is your coin so you can do what ever you want to with it. Take sandpaper to it if you like because it is yours! Have a good day and if I came across as a know it all and a butt I didnt mean to. Like I said just advice. Try the water bottle trick it does work well.
