I bought an axe head

At the Indian Artifact show in Corinth, MS. Seller said it was found in Clarksville, TN. Gave $35 for it. Being small, any usage ideas?

Is that paint on the base? Looks like the base was reworked after being broken.

I was able to rub black off the blunt end. But only that part. So, someone touched it up eh. Wonder why.

It could have been because of it looking like the side area. The previous owner didn't like the look of the lighter looking material under the polished dark surface.

It was probably damaged and someone touched it up so it looks better. Some people restore broken arrowheads so they look perfect. There is a good chance the entire end of your celt was found broken off & then replaced with filler.

Yeah an adze. I think they were used more for splitting wood. Does look like it's been touched up. Pretty cool.
