- Metal Detecting
Got out a few weeks back for the first time in almost a decade.
Honestly, I think I just wore myself out with it and sort of forgot about it, but not completely. Detectors were still sitting in the house just like I left them. I felt like the proverbial fish out of the water. I swear I had rust falling off me as a I swung the coil. In fact, I was not even sure the thing was going to turn on right or if it even kept the settings. I just went to a mid 60s sports field and gave it a shot. I have to say it did not take me long to know what and when to dig, though I did have to think on how to ground balance it (lol
). SO, not so much except a good laugh here. Some clad, some junk that sounded pretty good (at least with all the rust in my ear canal), but I hit a solid tone that was not a typical VDI. I was thinking it was a ring. However, I then dug out what I assumed to be a token, but to my surprise I yanked out a 1975 Hong Kong 2 dollar coin (copper I believe). Never even heard of one of these! After that, I remembered why I liked this hobby so much - you just never know what you are going to find. I was smiling and laughing all night. I guess that's the idea!
